Sorry new to minis. Does this mount the same way the OEM one does or differently?

I haven't seen an OEM rack in person so I am not 100% sure. From photos it looks like they attach in the same area but I can't quite see exactly how the OEM one attaches from the photos I pulled up from Google. It appears they both attach to the weather stripping along the roof. The OEM looks as if it attaches to the top side of the stripping somehow and the one I have attaches to the bottom.

If anyone knows the answer to this feel free to chime in.

you have to cut a piece of the rain gutter out to expose some holes on the oem one. does the yakima one just attach to the rain gutter itself? do you happen to have anymore up close pictures of how it attaches?

No you definitely don't have to cut anything with this rack. It has hooked brackets that hook underneath the gutters. No hard mounting, can be taken off and put on in seconds. I unfortunately don't have any other photos and no longer have the MINI either so I can't take more.

If absoluteczech doesn't want it I may. Only issue I see is that I have a sun roof and would like to use it while the Roof rack is on. Any idea on the clearance between the roof and the cross bars?

Unfortunately I have no idea on the clearance with a sunroof. I would guess that the rack sits about 2-3" above the roof, but again I don't have the MINI anymore so I couldn't check. The rack can come off in seconds though and goes on just as fast so it wouldn't be hard to leave the rack off and just put it on when you need it.
