OS Giken clutch

I just installed the OS Giken clutch. I would like to know which MANIACs are running the Giken and your impressions.

For me wow! What a difference for sure! The clutch is about 1" to 1'5" and took me a few days to get used to shifting/launching. I am still in the break in period as Giken recommends 200 miles before doing hard high rpm launches and shifting etc. ( I love to do hard shifts at 6500+!)

Only drawback is when at idle the NOISE hahaha. People say what is wrong with yer car? It's noisy! When I am at a light I now have it down to where I can have the clutch engaged gripping and let the MINI shake due to the cam and idle at 800rpm. I love the wwwsssssh sound shifting under power however.

My shop here will dyno the MINI as soon as I break it in. We have to tune the ECU but cannot get the Kellners latest software so we may have to hack it....lol.

So let me know yer impressions...thanks!

PS. The MINI was down 16 months due to a motor cycle hitting left front fender and damaging the NEEZ wheel and also had to save up to get the clutch and installation. The Lil Red Rocket is BACK for sure.

I have had an OS Giken STR Clutch and LSD for about 6 months in my modded '02 MCS and it is the best clutch I have ever used. You have to drop the hammer and not slip it too much and it is a bit noisy at idle but it is getting better - or I am getting used to it!! Expensive - but highly recommended.

CFMINI LTNS!!!! The Lil Red Rocket is back!

Yes the OS is AWSOME!!!! I will start hammering in about 50 more miles!!!!!

What are your dyno runs looking like with the clutch and track performance also?

I cant afford the Giken LSD yet...saving for it now. The old lady is gonna kill me but she smiles as we go cruzing around anyway .

The OS Giken clutches don't slip, little harsh for stop and go traffic, but a good race setup.

One of the tracks we run (2.9 mile CCW) I would get 5th at start/finish. After the Giken clutch/flywheel install I now get 5th about 4 car lengths before start/finish. So the reduced weight definitely helps the car spin up faster.

I got the Os Giken GT clutch installed a couple of weeks ago. Does yours make a metallic noise sometimes when releasing it and when downshifting and releasing?
The mechanic said its normal just the metallic plates rubbing against each other, I guess I just want to make sure ... Ya but the car drives awesome apart from that noise that makes me cringe a bit :| :D

I have the OS Giken GT clutch and love it. It's great in traffic. Definitey a little noisy but well worth it for the performance gains and quality.

Did everyone have to trim the flywheel bolts for the install?

That was with the older kits. We haven't had to with the newer kits. Also that was only on the R56 kits, we never had that issue with the R53 kits.

That's good to hear, I got a OS Giken STR for a R53 that I'm going to be installing soon and i saw that in their installation manual that we had to measure and trim the bolts. And then i saw some threads here on it and started worrying some how I'm going to cut off 3mm exactly haha especially after we pay so much for the clutch kit.

Can anyone confirm that the flywheel had the cam timing hole in the flywheel? Giken says yes , way said no...?

Has anyone had issues with loading a mini on a trailer with the clutch. I'm looking at getting a toy hauler and a little concerned with the on/off , slipping of the clutch to load it.
Any input would be nice , I'm on borrowed time with my oem clutch now !!

No issue with loading the car into the enclosed trailer. An open trailer will have a steeper grade, but don't think it will be an issue.

I only had issue with the clutch getting grabby after extended street driving. Now that this car only is driven on the track the clutch is very progressive.

Thank you for responding. It's like an enclosed trailer, I'm going to have to add some longer ramps due to how low the car is.
I was just worried about the on off trying to load it I hear everyone talking about with the clutch. I know loading it that would be sketchy when you need to be able to feather or go slow.
Still can't decide on oem or giken for a street car semi daily driver.
Thanks again !!
