Electrical Ground in interior fuse box?

Ground in interior fuse box?

I just bought a direct wire kit for my radar detector (
this one this one
), and I was reading up on how to install it before it comes on Wednesday.

I'm going to get an "add a circuit" kit from Autozone and install it on the cigarette lighter fuse, so it turns on and off with the car. I do not want to tap into the sunroof console wires, as my detector is on the dashboard, not mounted up high.

Anyways, I was looking around in the fuse box (passenger side footwell in my 2012 Hardtop), and I'm supposed to connect the ground loop to a metal screw in the fuse box, but I don't see any. The only metal I see connects via a plastic fastener to the dash. Any ideas?

There is no actual 'ground' point in the fuse box. there are a number of them around the area though that are direct to chassis mounting. Pull the cover off and you should see at least one threaded stud sticking out of the metal chassis somewhere and just connect to that. depending on the year you may need to remove the plastic piece that runs under the door to find one.

In the pic above I've pulled off the cover and I don't see any threaded studs...

I did some more extensive searching and found that people were removing the kick panel and attaching it to either the screw holding the fuse panel in, or down in the door sill.
Is the metal bit here:


P.S. those plastic fasteners are so annoying. If this happens to you, pull the plastic fastener from the car body and attach it to the kick panel. Then push in.

Sorry i was not specific enough. I could see that the fuse box cover was of and assumed when i said take the cover off or the plastic under the door you would understand to take the "entire" cover (lick panel) off.

Which radar did you get? I have a V1 and I grounded and tapped the power in the overhead light switches. Really easy
