1st. Gen. JCW brake upgrade on the cheap

So... as most of you know the JCW factory upgrade brake calipers for 1st. gen. MINIs were stock calipers for the 2nd. gen. MCS. This has prompted many of us 1st. gen. owners to seek out R56 MCS Front brake calipers to do an upgrade on our own. Coincidently these R56 "S" calipers will bolt right on to the the R53 with the brake lines and new rotors being the only major changes you need to make. I recently acquired a front set of 2010 MCS calipers and lines for a steal and went about turning them into the " real deal " JCW calipers for my 2004 JCW MCS. Posted a pic below. Simply purchased high temp. red caliper paint and some original JCW caliper stickers from a site on Ebay UK and a can of high temp clear coat for a finish. After I pick up rotors and new pads I will have approx. $475 and a little time painting invested in these. What do you think ?

Sweet. I think I've been hounding some of the same FS threads in the Marketplace. Looking to do the same job.

Nope, they are exactly what I posted above, but I am glad my work has fooled you so well.

Looks great!

I was going to go that way back in February, but funds were a little tight, so I just went with ATE Orbital Slot rotors and Redstuff pads for my brake re-up.

Next time....

I think, when the time comes, I'll go with stove black if I paint the rotors at all, but most likely I will leave mine unpainted, so that you have to really pay attention to notice that they're not stock R53 parts....

IIRC they'll only fit under the Bridge Spokes.

Look great! Congrats! I ordered the stickers and Im doubtfull between buying only the front calipers from a friend or the 4 (front and rear) with discs to another guy. So the question is what do you think, Its really a difference changing also the rear ones too?

The only difference for the rear JCW brake calipers is the color. Seems to me it would be a waste of money. Paint yours red & call it good.

Yup! Stainless lines, caliper bushing kits and decent pads for your application (street, track or both) and you're done.

What size JCW decals did you order for the front R56 calipers? I just ordered the calipers and will get the decals on order while I wait for them to arrive. I guess I should ask for the rear caliper decal size too so I can order that.

Nice guide c0op3r - props for writing it up. You should post in in the how-to section if not there already.

Holly cow c0op3r, I just asked for the dimensions of the decals not a complete break down on the brake system upgrade! Those are both GREAT write ups! Thank you very much! I don't know why I did not find those in my search for the past two days.

For you folks upgrading brakes. If you plan to track your MINI stay away from drilled rotors, they can fail on track. Slots are OK.

The thing is that there are two kinds of JCW logo, the R53 and the R56 one. The R53 are shorter with bigger letters, the R56 is longer, smaller letters and bigger "surfboard" like behind them. I bought this ones in ebay UK (http://www.ebay.com/itm/190862585404...84.m1439.l2649)
