R50/53 Upper mount failed. Questions
Upper mount failed. Questions
So my stock upper mount popped and leaked out all the hydraulic fluid.
What options do I have for aftermarket replacement?
Can I replace the mount fairly easily without having to put the car in "service mode"?

You have a couple of choices besides the stock unit. Way Motor works sells the TSW unit you can view it on his website. Some like it and others feel more NVH than they would like. Their is also a thread on another from the UK

This one seems to be a very nice unit and will probably be my choice when I have the failure.
Also their was a thread to be able to utilize a blown unit.

You do not have to put the car in service mode to change the mount. Their is one female thorx drive E12 on the lower mount that you may not have in your tool set.

I thank THE ITCH for bringing up my post. If you are looking for a mount that will give you any feedback dealing with the engine/drivetrain, my mod will certainly do that. If your looking for a OEM feel, stick with a hydro mount. I still haven't installed my silicone mount, but I'm not sure just how much, or if at all, it's any softer then the poly design. Either way, there are a couple of options, which have their pros and cons. Which ever one you choose, have fun, and make sure you use proper tools and torque specs when installing it
Just had the third motor mound replaced on the Pea yesterday.
- Original one was replaced at 30,458 miles
- That second one only made it to 49,785 but thankfully it was still a warranty repair.
- Third one replaced yesterday at 81,341 miles but the fluid leaked out of it several weeks back.
So it looks like 30k miles is expected life out of these things. At $165 for part and Bay Area labor rate, it's not a very expensive repair, but I wish MINI would update the part.
