I'm taking delivery of my r56 "2008 MCS" and I'm looking at wheels and I like the big wheel look but at the same time I want to keep my MCS sporty. I'm worried about finder rubbing and any other things that come along. So im looking for help with either adding spacers or other suspension parts to beef things up to help with the extra size wheel.

Bigger wheels mean bigger weight, and that will equal less performance. You will also notice the ride quality diminish as well, as heavier wheels and tires respond more slowly to bumps and dips (lower profile tires have less cushioning effect on bumps as well). While larger wheels can look cool, you have to decide if the performance and handling trade off is worth it. Besides unless you have a very aggressive looking car 19's almost always look goofy on a Mini, but it is your car do what you like, not what a few people on the internet like.

 

I've taken the performance side in to effect but I was going to go with a 3 piece or mono block wheel. A light weight 19"-20" by 7.5 with a offset of 40. I'm manly worried about the wheel wells and messing those up. Any thoughts on the wheel wells and I was thinking maybe a 1.5" drop springs.

 

There are many members with more knowledge on offsets and spacers, and springs, try a search in the wheel forum.

 

I would not go that large diameter of a wheel on a Mini. Besides being heavy and expensive, you are going to crack them on the street potholes with those really low profile tires. And it is going to give you a really harsh ride.

Generally et40 are OK with these cars. With a drop of 1.5", you will likely be OK as well. But you should not use much of a spacer (more than 5 mm) or there is likely rubbing in the front on turns. In the back, there is a metal lip that holds the plastic wheel arches that can cut your tires if you were out too far.

Not sure what you are trying to accomplish here? Is it eye candy bling?

I just like having a lip but im thinking I'll have to go with a 18" wheel that I like. I guess I also don't like a smaller wheel with a greater tire kinda look. The roads around here aren't too bad but might be moving so I'll have the other set of wheels.

They have light weight "custom 3pcs" wheels in those sizes but the catch is some I've come across are 1,000 to 5 or 6,000 "mind you, PER" wheel. I even came across a wheel that I customized with just satin/matte black five spoke style and the total per wheel was 10,000 and this company even had their wheels on a Kia. Not knocking Kia but....... to put a wheel that costs that much on a car that's about the same, just doesn't sound right but... Hey if you have money to toss around, do as you wish!!! Not my bed lol

To OP. Go with 18s if you want to match a look. People will tell you 18s look too big and 17s are perfect. But I look at it in this way, when BMW came out with the E90/E92, it came with stock 17s & 18s, people complained about 19s being too heavy, or didn't look right, well look at the new 3 now, they rock 20s from the factory. 18's will look sick, just look at my sig. 18" CCW Classics.
