Anyone know the TRUE story on where bonnet stripes are installed?
I've done a search, and found many conflicting answers to this question, and people seem very sure of themselves when making the statements. Anyone know the truth? Some people say that if you order bonnet stripes up front, they are put on at the factory, but if you don't, they are put on at the VDC or the dealer for an extra fee. Others say that the VDC is actually an extension of the factory and the stripes are put on there, and that no stripes are put on at the factory. I have a Countryman on a boat due at the port tomorrow, and am trying to figure out if there will be any reason for a delay at the VDC before being sent to the dealer.

I ordered my car without the strips. Then realized that it would look better with them. But the car was on the boat already. So I paid $250 for the dealer to do it after it arrived without them. Lesson learned. Cost $150
In the long run, you're right, it doesn't matter. But since I (and most of the people on here who have ordered cars) have obsessed about every step of this process, it was just one step that I was hoping to clear up some confusion about. I'm trying to figure out if it's realistic to hope for my car by the weekend, or expect to be picking it up next week. After waiting 10 weeks already, each day is agonizing.
If it's done at the VDC, it certainly doesn't take long. My MA phoned me two days after the car was shown arriving at the VDC (which was one day after his boat docked). That's pretty good for all the prep and trucking up to the SF Bay Area from L.A.
And hey, it's two stickers! Not something that will take a week to do.

No real contribution here, but, you sound like a true MINI person in the making. Hope you carry that attitude all the way to two bucket hand washing/detailing and 'Yes it's fast, no you can't drive it' and parking clear across the parking lot from all the door slamming morons. Hope you enjoy your new motor as much as we enjoy ours.

Welcome back.
I was told that my stripes, both boot and bonnet were done at the factory. The only thing that held mine up was the checker flag graphic on the sun roof. They brought someone in from outside the dealership to add it. That said, it was only a day, so not long at all. I added the mirror graphic myself :-) as soon as it arrived home. Hope yours arrives soon.
