due to the success of the previous karting outing, i'm posting this as a feeler to see if we can get enough interest to go racing again? i know more than a few of us would like to go again.

I have gotten spousal approval for Karting (and I think I have recovered from the last time)!

 

I'm down with Sunday mornings, generally. The last one happened to be on the rare Sunday when I have to work. Are there any deals on weeknights as well?

 

as far as i know the price breaks only come in if we start early in the morning, but i'll ask when i contact Chicago Indoor Racing.

as for non-memebers, we're going to have to offer positions to members first. however, should we have open spaces, non-members are more than welcome to join. as i recall, last time we had more than 1 non-member driver, so i don't think it should be a problem. i'll keep this thread posted.

 

I am in if we do this again! It was great the first time, and I have been itching to go back since. Definitely worth doing again.

i posted this thread to help guage interest in going karting again. i know that more than a few people expressed interest in going again immediately following the last event. if it's determined that enough people wish to go, i'm extremely confident there will be, an official post on the CMMC board will be made.

i'm checking this thread daily for responses and have noted those who've expressed interest here. what i'd like is a general idea of what would work for everybody as far as scheduling. last time we raced (relatively) early on a Sunday morning and it worked out well, but if a weekday or weekend evening is preferred, and will result in more participants attending, that to can be arranged. bare in mind that an evening or day-time event will cost more than the previous sunday morning event.

 

I liked the weekend morning like we did last time, that seemed to work out well. Just have to make sure it doesn't conflict with any Formula One races =).

 

I had to cancel at the last minute last time around, doctor's orders.
I am definitely in for a spin around the track and this time I won't
be thwarted.

I will definitely be in for it this time, as long as I don't drive any more mowers off of a cliff. I was mad that I couldn't make the last time. A Sunday morning would be best for me.

 

I'm a new CMMC member and would be very interested. Last time, was there a group that drove up (convoy) from downtown?

 

well, i've gone and done it. i've contacted Chicago Indoor Racing and we're "penciled in" for a 9:45 start (8:45 pre-race briefing) on May 30th, the day of the Indy 500. Chicago Indoor Racing will have the 500 on their many screens throughout the facility so we can watch the action when we're not on the track and after we get finished. They may even have one of their many rooms open with the race broadcast on their projection screens!!!

another interesting tid-bit. Red-bull is doing an "american F1 driver" search for kids 13-17. they'll be holding qualifiying races on the shorter (600ft) track during the same time we're racing on the 800ft track.

just as last time, we'll have 30 spots open, to first to CMMC members only. if we have a large enough response we'll be able to open up another 10 or so positions if needed.

 

Darn, I thought Karting Event II was going to be in April! I can't hardly attend on Indy 500 day when I'll be in Indy for my 15th consectutive 500.

DARNIT!!! I was really stoked about this, since I was unable to make the last one. But, since I will be at the Indy 500 I'm gonna have to miss this one too. Sounds like it will be happening more than this so I'll just have to try to make the list next time, if there is a next time. Oh well.

to those of you fortunate enough to be attending the Indy 500. don't worry about missing opportunities to go Karting. this is something i would like to do every couple of months, going forward, and i'll continue to put Karting events together as long as there is demand from within the club.

eventually i'd like to see a CMMC team in the Chicago Indoor Racing leagues and i feel an event like this is a good way for the Club members to acquaint themselves with Chicago Indoor Racing.

 

If there are any CMMC members (or non-members) that want to put a team together for the CIR and compete in their leagues, let me know. I've been looking to do this, but haven't found anyone with more than a passing interest. Shoot me an e-mail if you're interested.
