Mud flaps question

I want to ask, why almost everybody put mud flaps in their CM, and if the aero kit can be install with them together. Thank you in advance

I installed them to reduce the amount of slushy snow (usually containing sand and sometimes salt) from flying up on the sides of the doors and rear of car. I don't know about the aero kit.

Well I put mine on so it doesn't kick up all the junk on the side and back of the car. I went withoout for a while and then put them on so I could see the difference. I no longer get those mud lines on the side and the boot especially on the bumper seems cleaner for a longer period of time.

As for the flap with the aero kit, I am not completely sure but thought I saw somewhere that they will not fit. there are other alternatives but usually consist of a flat piece of plastic, but you can get them in colors. I know there is rally countryman on here and has them in red.

They blend nicely with the wheel arches and look pretty good.

How difficult are these things to install yourself? The dealer wants $503 to put them on my car before I pick it up (parts + labor), and that seems ridiculous to me. Considering the parts are "only" $200 of that, I think it has to be a test of how big a sucker I am to ask for $300 to install 4 mud flaps...

The fronts were easy, just turn the wheels to give space to work and they went on easily. Pretty sure it was about 15 minutes for the first one as I was learning, and maybe half that for the second one. I haven't purchased the back ones yet, but will be doing so before winter. With the price quoted, how many hours are they allotting for the install?

The price was for 2 hours of labor. Where did you buy your mudflaps? I found some at a vendor online for about half of the cost of the ones at the Mini dealer, and they look about the same to me. Did the fronts require any drilling, or do they screw into existing holes?

Yeah, there's a video or thread here somewhere about how to install them. I got them for the same reason as eggmole. I can def tell a difference and yes, it does look really nice.

I had the dealer install mine before delivery and then had them thrown in for free during the final negotiation since they weren't really budging on price. Remember you can always walk away and let them know that!
It should be roughly $200 parts and 1 hour install at about $80.

Good luck.

Did you miss a digit? The going labor rate at Bay Area MINI dealers is $180/hr!

It's pretty easy. The only annoying part is getting the plastic rivets to go all the way in. Those things are terrible. I thought the rears were easier than the fronts, because they were all screws rather than plastic rivets IIRC.

I got a quote of $130 for front and back installed at the dealer - around $90 for the flaps and the rest labor. Guess I should jump on it, eh?

Nope didn't miss a digit. For flaps and install MINI SF wanted $280. If they had wanted more then I would've looked elsewhere. But I'm not surprised if their labor rate is $180/hr.
Thankfully MINI of Marin opened last month so I'll go there for any service needs. As for oil changes (break in and every 5000 miles) I go to G&S Tuning here in Santa Rosa, $100 and includes a wash.

It's totally outrageous but it's reality. Even the BMW / MINI specialized independents I've gone to charge between 120 - 140 per hour

Had to drill a couple of holes in the front, but it was super easy. Didn't hit metal that I am aware of, but still loaded in the rust protect just in case. I bought the flaps at the MINI dealer in upstate NY. Way cheaper than getting them here in Canada. Plus I was driving by anyway so it wasn't out of my way.

Turns out that quote was for the fronts only. Double it if you want the rears too.

When we were told the price for install on the mudflaps, we backed out. When we picked up the car, they were on the car and we weren't charged extra. Sewell was great at handling our purchase.
