Rear Brake Replacement - Sensor Cable Too Short?
I did some searches and couldn't find any info on this topic. I do recall reading something about this a long time ago, though. That the earlier R56 had a longer cable or something of the sort.
I just did a pad/rotor swap on my wife's 2007 r56 S - delivered in 5/2007 so early build of r56 S (she got almost 30k out of the rears! Fronts went at 22k).
I ordered the "right" parts, supposedly, but the sensor cable was about 10" too short. Has anyone run into this? Of course I didn't know until I decide to do this on a Sunday and the car is already apart before I know there is an issue.
I ended up doing a solder splice job with waterproof heat shrink tubing using the worn sensor cable to extend the new one, cutting off the connectors to extend. This worked fine and the brake light reset OK.
The cable routes on the passenger side up above the suspension mount, inside the body panel. If you crawl under the car and look up it's easy to see. Not too hard to replace, I didn't have to remove any panels. It's right next to a blue connector for the ABS sensor. Its way up in there and there is no way the cable I got would reach. They must have relocated these in later builds.

Quick question (only because I can’t remember) Is there a sensor for the left and right side or just one side?
If there are sensors on both sides, then you may have the wrong one. (pretty sure the sensor is only on one side)
If the sensor is only on one side, there are only 3 possibilities.
1) you’re routing it incorrectly
2) you have the front instead of rear
3) you have one for an R53 instead of an R56
I’ve replaced mine and they didn’t have “options” for the rear sensors.
Not much help but....

There is only one sensor per front or back. On the rear it's right side.
After doing some more looking I'm positive they gave me the front cable. The rear is about 10" longer.
I'm positive I routed it right as I traced the orig cable and compared the two side by side.
Ah well all is working fine.

There should be a part number stamped in gray/white color on the wire.
It supposed to be: 34356789330 ( For ALL R56 S until 8/2010).
If the one you have now ends in -329, then they gave you a front....

Has anyone just connected a new sensor and tied it off somewhere outside of the brake pad?
Honestly I think the warning comes on very prematurely (probably more of a cover their own **** precaution as many people take a while to react and schedule an appointment with the dealer). But, I do my own wrenching and know when my brakes are fading/worn enough to need changing and check my pads and rotors regularly.
My rear warning came on about 3k miles ago and there is still plenty of meat left on them. I only noticed today that they're starting to be slightly additional pedal required to have relatively the same brake force applied.. so I will likely change them within the next 500 miles or so.

Appreciate the responses. I threw away the package already, but am guessing they gave me the front, despite ordering a rear OEM kit. Anyway, I made it work OK.
re tying it off: People with after market pads do this, but there is no squealer, so you need to watch the wear.
My wife's rear brakes had probably another few K on them, the most worn pad was probably about 1/16, maybe a little more, at the lowest spot. The wear was pretty even.
What surprised me most was the groove on the disks, they were quite worn and were just at spec thickness wise, so I replaced them.

I don't use my sensors. They're tied back since I can't use them when I track the car without melting them.

I know this post is a little old... has anyone on the 2007 or later... just cut off the old sensor and twisted the two wires together to try and fool the systme to think the circut it closed??? I tried this and the back worked but I can NOT get the the front to reset... my front is RED and shows -4100 miles... Negitive??? I have gone through the re-set several times,,, still RED and I also have a RED Lift that seems to have re-set = miles show good and year shows 2014... still RED
