Any negotiating tips? About to order
Hey all,
About to order a Countryman and I've seen a few posts on here regarding negotiations. I was always under the impression that you couldn't negotiate an order.
So, any suggestions on trying to keep the price down? Any idea if BMW or Mini has something like the Ford X plan? I work for a major company and they get discounts with most vehicle lines.
Thanks,
Jason

Price is one thing and there are a couple threads in here that will help you with that. Allotment is something else. They really go hand in hand. Delivery by July 2 means $750 without even having to haggle that amount!

Hey Ozark,
On assignment in Houston.... whatcha doing here? So, if I understand you correctly, we could negotiate a bit on price if we decide to order the "right" car. Tell me more....
If you need any tips on great places to check out in Houston, let me know. We've lived here for 10 years and are now living inside the loop. We love it! Granted, if I didn't have a job, we wouldn't be here though.

Yes, you can negotiate!
Hey Jason,
Jason here up in Dallas. YES, you can negotiate and don't let them try to tell you otherwise! We have three MINI dealers here in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and it is a good idea to shop them all. When I went to order my CM, one dealership gave me $1,500 off MSRP. Another dealer gave me $1,000 off MSRP an a possible additional $750-$1000 rebate that they were certain MINI would offer (if you used their financing). The other dealer would only give me $500 off MSRP.
I haven't actually ordered the car yet because I'm waiting to get closer to my lease return but will as soon as I can. What a great car!!
Good luck!

I live in the New York City metro area, where there are plenty of dealers competing with one another, and I was able to order a car last week at more than $2000 off MSRP, although I am paying a $249 documentary fee to the dealer which is pure profit to them. And I'm getting the 2.9% 72 month financing, and I will get another $750 off as the dealer agreed I don't have to take delivery of the car until I receive the Test Drive Take Down certificate. I did buy the car from a dealer an hour from home, but I was able to do everything over the phone and via email. I never even visited the dealer. I think they knew they had to give me a healthy discount given the distance from where I live, but as I pointed out to them they are still making a profit on the car of more than $1500...seems more than fair to me given the current market conditions. There is a dealer 15 minutes from my house, but they quoted only $750 under MSRP, they wanted a $390 doc fee, and when I told them I wanted more than $2000 off MSRP, they did not even respond to my offer! Rather amazing that they did not even politely said "no thanks". I think they felt I was going to buy the car from them no matter what because they knew the next closest dealer would be another 45 minutes away. It's definitely worth shopping around! Every other dealer except one was willing to beat their price significantly. I will use the local dealer for any warranty repairs, which they are obligated to provide. I've had salespeople tell me otherwise (to try to scare me), but I've never run into any car dealer that gave me a hard time at all regarding warranty repairs because I had purchased the car elsewhere.
Are you USAA? If so, BMW's got a deal going on through the end of the year (to include MINI):

Exclusive MINI Incentive offer is valid at any dealership nationwide. Member must take retail delivery by December 31, 2012. This incentive offer is not available to the general public. MINI incentives are only available to persons eligible for membership in USAA's Property and Casualty Insurance Group. P&C membership is generally available to current and former members of the U.S. Military and their former dependents. MINI requires presentation of a Photo ID and USAA insurance card with USAA number or a Confirmation Letter provided by USAA. For a Confirmation Letter, members can call USAA at 1-855-787-6272. One incentive per member insurance number per calendar year for new MINI vehicles. Incentives only available for 2012 model year vehicles. See your dealer for additional details.

There are no current "rebates" (whether it be to the dealer or customer)on the CM, just the $750 Test Drive Takedown program (described above), and special financing offers until the end of this month that seem to vary a bit depending what section of the U.S. you are in. We are getting 2.9% for 72 months in New Jersey. If I recall correctly some midwest states are being offered 1.9% for 72 months.
I'm not sure how I did it but I feel like I have negotiated a great 'drive it off the lot' price. I've done 90% of my negotiating over email. I only talked to the guy during the test drive and once over the phone when he had dates of arrival and information about my trade-in.
I'll buy every car from here on out like this.
