HELP with hiss sound through Aux port

I have a brand new CM and and have the standard stereo system. I am actually quite please with the sound as I have the Harmon Kardon system in my Clubman. Whenever I use the Aux port with my iPhone or iPod there seems to be a hiss in the sound. Does anybody else have this issue? I have tweaked the Mini Aux volumn as well as the iPod/iPhone volumn and it still doesn't see mto help. Thanks for the help!

I think I've met with this problem several times. I happened to find out that the aux cable was not plugged fully in to the Aux port. It needs a little more effort, and that solved the problem perfectly.

Not sure if that's also your problem.

^^ What Donald said. The aux cable can come partially off when you remove your iPod / phone / pad

Yeah what they said and if that doesn't do it then I would suggest trying anther cable. Maybe one out of the clubman since you know it works well already. If not then i would try anther device to make sure it is not your iphone, by than you have doen prrtty much everything you can do, time to call the dealer. hope this helps and good luck

I had the same problem in my MCS. Go over to Radio Shack and get a ground loop isolator (with 3.5mm connector) and it removes all the feedback noise.

Here is a link to one on Amazon...

Here is a post about it...

My speakers hiss all the time, even if the car is turned off, there's always a hiss. I started another thread about this somewhere. Not sure if it's the same problem you have. My hiss is very low and barely noticeable.

I imagine as I age and my hearing gets worse, I'll notice it less

The hiss that the stereo has even when the audio system is off happens in every CM and i believe MINI... Hopefully they will come up with a software fix for that!

As far as the AUX goes... The only thing I noticed is that when I switch to SIRIUS from my iPhone the audio gets way louder (even with my volume turned all the way up on the iPhone)

Just thought it was interesting to see how much different the input amplification is between different sources.

Nice, that's the same thing as I posted above in my Amazon link but the one you show is smaller, sleeker, and better looking. Good find. I talked to a stereo installer and for some reason this hiss (feedback noise) is pretty common in BMW & MINI for some reason, more than in other cars, not sure why.

Take the damn thing to the dealer. These are brand new cars and they should not have these problems.

I dont think the dealer can fix it, many bmw's and mini's have that issue, regular aux cables dont seem to work, which is not a big deal since the ones that work are 8 bucks.

DO NOT BUY THE KENSINGTON CABLE. I BOUGHT IT. IT MAKES YOUR IPHONE/IPOD SOUND ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. I have the H/K system, and I've even upgraded some of the factory H/K speakers (the two lower speakers in the front driver and passenger doors, because those stock h/k speakers are ****...nevertheless...) and as soon as I plugged in my iPhone 4S to that Kensington cable it just made everything sound muddled, full of static like I had downloaded 96 kbps songs....the ground loop isolator with a nice 3.5 mm cable is all you need.

For those of you new to this, please note that the MINI takes a 4 ring aux plug, not the three ring plug. All the links above show a 3 ring.

I have the Kensington cable and it sounds just as good as any Aux cable. It removed all the hiss from my speakers. I did do the front and rear audio channel swap if that has anything to do with it.

Also check your inputs.
Make sure the volume on your device is about 75% then after selecting AUX as the input, one of the middle buttons of the radio says volume. adjust that to turn down the input volume until you do not hear a hiss.

This worked for me. then you can turn up the radio volume as normal and no hiss.

NOTE: It may not say volume, but it is clear which button to press.

I'm pretty sure it's the aux cable. I bought the cheap cables from ebay for $1 and there a lot of noise when listening to my ipod. Switched it to a better cable and no noise whatsoever.

According to a local audio expert, the problem stems from the shielding of the cable. The charging function creates the hiss heard over the audio/video portion of the cable. A ground loop isolator will do the trick however, if using connected, this will compromise playback of the video.
