Installed a 123 distributor in my A-series today
Hey all --
Just wanted to share my joy that I got a new 123 distributor installed today. It was a super easy install. Really, even a cave man can do it with just a couple of hand tools.
I've had problems with a low-end (2k-3k RPM) dead spot in acceleration for the last few months. A couple of weeks ago a friend helped me do a quick tune up (valve adjustment, carb idle speed, and ignition timing). What we found was the timing produced by my Lucas 25D was all over the map at idle ... so much so that it was somewhat pointless to try to even set the timing because it was so erratic.
As it turns out, when I was preparing to remove the old 25D I noticed that the ignition wires going into the distributor were being pinched by the distributor cap preventing the cap from seating completely. I'm not sure if this was the culprit of my low-end dead stop, but I replaced the distributor anyway.
Needless to say, the dead spot is gone ... now I just need to spend some time tuning to select the correct ignition curve and I'll be all set.
