looking at 2007 mini S , yes or no ???

hi, im new here , been lovin the cooper S models for years but never bought one, now i found locally a 2007 cooper S model with 35k on the dial, really cool car , drove it for about 45 minutes and had a blast, more than i ever had in a car !! now im reading alot of complaints about engines ,timing gears etc, should i not buy one , im kinda worried now , told the dealer i would pick up on saturday ,i did however price out the extended warranty that i would buy that would cover drivetrain[engine/trans axles ,etc] also covers a/c system ,starter etc. 2yr 1500.00 or 3 yr policy 1700.00 100 dedct. so help a newbie out with some thoughts thanks

If that warranty covers the car like a new car warranty that is a definite plus because then if some goes wrong you will be covered. I have an 07 and have had a couple of problems but that has not slowed me down. I love this car even with its flaws. How much do they want for the MINI?

they are asking 15k , it does have a huge 90 day warranty on it[sarcastic]. thats why i want an extended, i really want the car , is it a fair price, ive been looking around and that seems the going price around here, , its a reputable dealer here where i live, its not a mini dealer but its a good dealer. i did find cheaper coopers S [10k-12k]but they are between 03-05 with like 70-80k on the dial.just sold my truck , so im pretty much just buying it with just a small finance on it

15k for an 07 is a reasonable deal. That is about what they are going for. If it looks clean and nothing wrong with I say do it. That is just me though.

You must remember that for every one person who complains about an issue with their car, there are ten others who haven't a single one.

I've had a few problems with my car, all very minor. My O2 sensor went out within a few months of owning it. The driver's side window randomly started rolling down. One of my taillights broke a seal and started fogging up. It's been about a year since I've had any other issues with it.
But for owning the car two and a half years, I couldn't be happier with it. It's an amazing car. Ultimately it's your decision, but don't let the posts on this forum scare you. We come here for advice when we have problems and rarely just post to say "My car drove perfectly today!" - that would get a bit boring, wouldn't it?

I bought 08 MCSa (10/2011, 32k miles) fully loaded all packages, CPO, out the door for $24k. CPO means I get a bumper-to-bumper warranty until April 2014 ($50 deduct).

I offer just as a point of reference.

thanks guys for all your responses !!! i really do appreciate it !!! so i slept on it last night and i figure with the extended warranty its a go !!! like i said before i am wowed over the looks and the driving of it.
Agent.Cooper ..thanks for pointing out the percentage statement , makes a lot of sense to me. i guess if you look at any vehicle there are complaints about each and every one of them , but thats the norm.
Porthos... the car is a 1 owner, non smoker , it is like new inside and out ,no scratches or anything, the person looks like the maintained it very well. it runs perfect, no problems with the carfax, the only thing that has ever been done is normal oil changes, no other services shown or concerns . i think/hope its a creampuff !!!

Do the normal diligence that you would do with any vehicle purchase (get a trusted mechanic to look at it, history report, etc) and if your worried about extra repair costs out of pocket then get the extended warranty. IMO the warranty just removes a lot of the worrying about something not working but you certainly pay for it. I'm sure most warranties never go beyond the initial cost of the warranty (that is their business plan after all).

As a reference point I bought an 07 in October which 17k miles for 17k and threw in a warranty for 1500. Seems like what your getting is worth the price given the miles and year (based upon what I've seen). If you enjoy it, go for it! You'll regret not getting a MINI...I know I regret not getting one sooner.

If you were in Texas I would sell you my 2011 mini cooper for $20,000...only has 9,500 miles on it. Some people are mini people...some are not....I found out the hard way I am NOT!

BTW, you dont need the warranty on a MINI, I talked to a mechanic and the dealer charges twice what a reputable garage would charge. In addition, for the first 36K miles you get all regular maintenance done for free anyway.

He's looking at an 07 which would be out of the manufacturers warranty and the maintenance plan as well. As far as using a independent shop versus a dealer agreed, but you can still have expensive repairs regardless of who does the work. With the warranty most will not justify the cost of the warranty and a few will.

That is very true. It is the major reason why I did not buy the extended on my 07. I just could not see paying $3k for it and not using it. I would have had to have done $3k of repairs with in 3 years for it to be worth it.

At least get the car looked over by a MINI mechanic be it at a MINI dealership or Independent mechanic and see what they say. If it looks like stuff needs to be fixed or going out get that extended. If not then don't.
