My First Classic Mini

Hello all, I've been on the forum for a while. The wife and I have a 2011 Cooper S, but nowI'm in the process of getting my own Mini. It's a 1978 Mini 1000. Nicknamed Kermee from it's previous owner. This is my first mini. I remember as kids we had 2 differen Mini's. one a lil blue Mini and the second a Van.
Anyways I'll have it paid off and hopefully on the road by April. looking forward to my first drive.

Here's a few pics.

Nice! Welcome to the forum. Kermee looks pretty much stock. With luck you'll be enjoying the summer after you pay it off!

Looks great. I thought they put the reverse lights on the 1000 in '78 though...

I thought they did too. This was built on the 9th week of 78, so maybe it was still in transition to 78 specs. It was shipped to Canadian specs so it may have been different. I'm going to submit a reqest to the BMIHT for a heritage certificate. It will give me the true factory issued specs for my car and what was on it when it rolled out of the factory.

If your interested in finding out what was on your car when it rolled out of the factory check it out.

British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Link

** After further reading I found out the factory stopped recording rolling spec information after 1969 so I won't be able to get a Heritage Certifiacte.. Also from talking to friends in the UK and other forums, I found out that in 78, older stock was used up on the 850's and 1000 until in June of 78. By 1979 everything was officially new spec for the 20th Anniversary.

Looks like you got a very nice 'first Mini', I'm sure you'll have fun.
I had a blue 78 Canadian 1000 a few years ago, though the previous owner had already removed the side indicators. At least you don't have the Canadian spec bumper.
What are your plans? Looks like a good driver, nice 10's, wood dash. It is still running the 1000?

Still has the 998 and I'm planning on keeping it. Maybe a few performance upgrades later down the line like a stage one.

I'm looking to put W&P arches on it and having the rims referbished. They have a few layers of paint on them and I want to bring them back to origional.

I picked up a set of 13's but now I'm not sure I want to cut into the fenders to fit them. I'd love to find another set of 10's maybe 12's.

Also plan to put and adjustable suspension and possibly a disc braked conversion.

Cosmetically, Maybe a set of Bonnet Stripes, Spotlights and a roof rack and a a few touch ups. For now, other than a few things that need tending to, like tune up and checking everything over and a handle to wind up the window I'll keep it as it is.
