JCW exhaust vs. "aftermarket" exhaust? Worth it?

I've got a full JCW exhaust on my 03' MCS with all of the other JCW goodies (head, tune, intake, pulley). I had the resonator removed so that I could actually hear the thing run (man it was quiet!!), and that helped a little. I'd like to get a little more sound out of it with out it being obnoxious....and a little more power would be great.

I know that all of the "aftermarket" exhausts are much louder than the JCW systems...but what about power? Will the aftermarket exhausts make any more power compared to the JCW exhaust?

Thanks!

If your JCW is the full 210 hp, intake, injectors, flash, your money would be better spent on a tune.
My car gained 13 hp and 9 lbs tq with a tune. Those are real numbers not advertising claims.

Most of all it was the drivability that was greatly improved for less money than a new cat-back.

Hope this helps...

Most of the power to be made is in the header...

Unless you are running big HP...the exhaust won't make that much of a difference other than sound. My vote, spend the $ on a header+tune!

Thanks for the info. It's got the tag on the inter cooler with the JCW kit #, has the intake, exhaust, interior, tag on the computer showing the JCW tune, so as far as I know it's got the head and the injectors. I'm assuming that when the original owner bought it in 2003, they had the dealer put the JCW kit on it.....I don't think it was a factory option until 2004.

It doesn't have any JCW badges though, but I've heard that if the deal installed it....they give the customer the option of putting those on or not.

Yours does have the head as that was part of all JCW upgrades.

The 380 injectors, air intake and flash are a different story as they came with the 210 hp upgrade.

The injectors are a different color, a light blue, vs the stock injectors.
The air cleaner has a JCW logo on it with electrical and vacuum connections to open a flap to the cowl at 4500 rpms.
The 210 JCW Tuning Kit became a factory installed option as well as a dealer upgrade in late 2005 I believe.

If you don't have those you don't have the 210 hp JCW Tuning Kit.

As 'Thumper' has said a header is a better choice, more horse power, than a cat-back.
From what I've read here on NAM a header will make the exhaust sound louder as well.

A header and tune will give you very nice gains. Lots of bang for your buck.

Hope this helps...

I'm pretty sure it's the 210hp JCW "kit". At least I think it is. The injectors are black with a yellow top though....not light blue. The JCW intake has apparently been removed and swamped for a different aftermarket intake.

Is it possible that is has everything (head, exhaust, tune) but the injectors?

Here are some pics...

Nope, it's the 200hp kit.

The injectors are stock, not the 380's, and it's doubtful that yours ever had a JCW airbox.
I say that because no one would pay for an JCW airbox only to remove it and replace it
with an aftermarket airbox that may or may not be minimally better.

Hope this helps...

Yep, I heard somewhere that the JCW airbox didn't come out until 04-05. So is that JCW airbox really that much better than the aftermarket one that's on there. The JCW airbox and injectors will add 10hp?

Thanks for the info!!
