R56 Random sluggishness above 4500rpm?
Random sluggishness above 4500rpm?
Hi guys,
I just noticed something strange with my mini a few days ago. There are times when I go WOT, then the car suddenly feels sluggish above 4500rpm and takes forever to reach redline. Then maybe 30 mins to an hour later (same conditions, same night), it goes back to normal. It seems to alternate between both states at random. However, anything below 4500rpm and it pulls as strongly as usual.
What could be the possible problem? Could it be a bad tank of gas and the ECU is retarding timing (at random intervals?)
Btw, the car is a 2010 Factory JCW but I figured that I'd get more responses here. Only mod is a resonator delete.

Without any other information, it's like a needle-in-a-haystack guess.
If you have direct access, you should scan for any possible fault codes that could be stored in the ECU.
Since its very intermittent, and cannot recreate the situation on a whim:
Either turn it into the dealer to see what they turn up (if anything)...
Or try a different fuel stop, making sure you're using premium fuel.
