R56 Tire Sizes
Tire Sizes
Am looking to buy snow tires for my 2007 MCS preferably used. What are the sizes that fit. Tire rack says 195/55/16 and 205/45/17. Are there any other sizes that fit? Am hoping to spend around $300 for a set of 4 tires so am not too particular about the brand. Just something that will hold for 2 years or so.
So, there's a decent selection of 16" tires:
* 195/50-R16
* 205/45-R16
* 205/50-R16
* 185/55-R16
There's lots of choices available.

If you are looking to save money you should be looking a the smallest diameter wheel that will fit over the front brakes. Smaller wheel = cheaper tires
I do not think that you will find many 15" wheels that will fit over the 2007 MCS front brakes. However, there is this set of wheels available; http://nemini.org/index.php?topic=1941.0
They are a steal at that asking price. If I did not already have a set I'd be all over them.

Bilbo-Baggins: I noticed you have quite a few mods that I like. Would you recommend Nokya yellow fog lights with PIAA xstreme white headlights?

The person is selling a set of four MINI OEM 15" wheels from an early 2009 that should fit your 2007. She is asking $300, complete with four good Michelin Alpine tires. Register on the nemini.org site, there is a lot of good things always happening there. A nice group of people, all dedicated MINIacs.
Definitely like the yellow fogs, much less glare than white or bluish colored beams. A little extra power in the headlights is almost always a good thing as long as you install the correct bulb and it is correctly aimed.

You would be better off with 195/55R16. Narrower is always better in snow or on ice. The 205/55R16 would be a little taller but should still fit.
I run 185/65R15 for my snow tires. 205/50R16 for every day. 215/45R16 for auto-x and track events.

thank you.
You cannot mount a 17" tire on a 16" wheel.

To clarify: If they are selling you the wheels and the tires together, they should fit.
If they are just selling the tires, you will have to find some 17" wheels to mount them on. They will not fit your 16" wheels.

And not to forget, with new wheels, you need to buy the tire pressure monitors too...
AND!!! Not to forget, but if you are just buying tires, don't forget that you will have to have them mounted and balanced on your wheels, so you can add about $100-$150 to the cost of the tires... AND you get to pay again to put the regular tires back on in the spring. You will kill snow tires in short order trying to use them when it's hot...

14" wheels will not clear the brake calipers, and 185/60/14 will be way too short anyway.
185/60/16 would work, 195/60/15 would work, but make sure the 15" wheels will
clear the brakes (should be ok with your gen 1 with stock non-JCW brakes).
175/65/15, 185/65/15, 195/60/15 and 205/50/16, and 205/55/16 are also reasonable sizes.
