Speedometer

Has any one checked there speedometer with GPS on the stock tires? I want to know how close it is. I'm thinking on getting a set of 215/55/17 which are .4 taller. So the Speedo will read about a mile an hour slower at 60. Thanks

All of the MINI speedometers read a few percent high, so going with slightly-taller tires will just make it a little more accurate.

All four of our MINI's have read 2 MPH faster than GPS's have shown and that's been on stock tires/wheels. From what I've read that is very common.

My CM4 speedo reads 2 mph high at 60 according to the GPS on 17" wheels and stock a/t tires.

My MCS also reads two mph higher than actual (as measured by my gps), I have a feeling this is not model specific. It sounds like all Coopers read 2 mph high.

Thanks for all the replys, I think I will order the 215/55/17 , that size should look good under there.

All my cars have read higher than actual when checked with a GPS. I think car makers do it on purpose to account for the largest diameter tire that could be put on their cars. Its better to err on reading high than low.

I have found that my R55 and R56 both read a consistent 3 mph high (verified with GPS and speed reported from my radar detector when hit by radar).

My Honda Pilot and Toyota Prius are dead on. My old BMW 3-series was 10 percent high. The MINIs seem to be set about 3-4 percent high so far.

Mine used to read ~3mph fast, but the last radar sign I passed told me it's 4mph now -- is it getting worse?? O.o

Maybe the tires are getting smaller.
