Feeler: Group Buy 07-12 projector headlight group buy?

I spoke with a rep and was curious as to what the rules are on this forum with group buys, and also wanted to gauge the interest to see who is interested in doing a group buy on some R56/57/55 projectors?

They are from SpecD just outside of Los Angeles. I plan to pick up a set pre-group buy and maybe let you guys know my impressions. One other member has, but I'm going with their newest set in black.

Thanks!

This is almost exactly what we're talking about, and I'll have an actual photo within 2 days.

If the harness plugs directly into the factory harness I would be interested.

I do know that it is plug and play, as in it plugs right in. It does NOT plug right in to your xenon ballast as far as I know.

The aftermarket xenons work and fit, yes. The projector is deep enough to handle xenon.

I believe they take a H11 bulb, so you can get an HID kit for DDM tuning or go with a halogen setup. If they are $300 shipped normally, I would expect to see at least a 10% decrease in price for a group buy.

Run it by the mods for approval.

might be interested as well...but don't see them on their web site. I would need a lot more information about the company selling, and the country of origin. If they're Chinese Cheapies, no thanks.

If I get a pair I'll walk you through everything. I'm not sure where you think these $300 shipped headlights will be made vicj, but I'll be surprised if its not china. It depends on more than just country of origin though.

I used to race carbon fiber road bikes and everyone was anti Taiwan made bikes. Turned out, all of them are made in Taiwan. The best carbon builders are in Taiwan at this point. Same goes for a lot of things. I'm more concerned with initial quality. I've had a set of cheap aftermarket lights as well as a really nice set. Both made in china.

I'm interested. I've got stock halogen headlights on a 2009 R55. Would these just replace them? Would they throw up any lighting error codes?

No error codes, just a replacement. You can use the included bulbs that it will come with.

I have looked at black flame customs and at this point I am weighing my options. I am interested but like stated above, I would need a lot more info and a few more pics both on and off before committing myself to a purchase.

Ok, so to do this we will eventually need a tax ID or buyers license. I'm sure someone on here has this.

If everyone plans on putting xenon lights in these, They have a batch that had bad wiring to the main bulb (which xenon ballasts replace) that would be at a heavy discount.

Made by Depo. Depo made a really nice set of lights for my 04 VW GLI that looked great until I traded it in in 2009. Good quality! Bad wiring :-/

Like I said, I'm gonna pick up a pair and post all the relevant info and you guys can decide from there. I'll already have a set so it's for the benefit of the community.

My objections to Chinese made products are more than just the obviously inferior quality of almost every manufactured item that comes from that country. I refrain from purchasing Chinese products because many other issues as well. I don't want to get into a long philosophical discussion about why Chinese products should be boycotted...however it IS something I try to live by. Not always successfully, but as often as I can

Oh, I see. Cool. That computer you're using to reply... Ah, I'll stop there! Jk.

Depo is the brand- I don't know where it's made yet but I'm 99% sure it's china. Most of my iPhone is from China... Assembled there, too. <iPhone

I agree with 11coopers, I will not buy anything from mainland China unless there is no alternative. Taiwan on the other hand is a Democracy and they do make good stuff.

I just dont like how they kick out the turns instead of keeping them inline. It just looks off to me.

My computer was built by HP, in Illinois. I can't control where PARTS come from, alas...though I would if I could. My phone was manufactured in South Korea, being a Google guy.

I would take these as a styling (black housing) and upgrade for the projector aspect. If I had xenons I would not swap with these. I say +1 for halogen guys.

I bought these and they are set to arrive Monday or Tuesday. So, give me a week and I'll write up all I can. If they're junk, I'll do the write-up and return them.
