I'm pretty sure it's a sealed unit. The only way to check/change the oil is to remove the s/c.

there are 2 sides.. pulley and waterpump

pulley - it's a hex scew right by the dipstick... you can open it fairly easy to check

waterpump - you need to pull the front end, SC and waterpump to get at it.. a bit of work, but if you plan on replacing your rad hoses, thermostat, etc it's not that bad.

I refilled mine, but it makes a new noise now and think the bearings are slowly going.. after 140k miles

phil.

A talented person in our MINI community has recently put a DIY together for this.

That is an amazing writeup and worthy of a place in my MINI Maintenance folder.

So, how much would a knowledgeable and competent shop charge for this little bit of normal maintenance?

Trying to get a good idea of the cost benefit at 62,000 miles
