I know it's easy to drive the MINI over the legal speed limit unknowingly. For your protection, here's the latest report from Motor Trend.

So this would make what, 10 years in a row for the V1? For the price it better be good.

well hang on a sec....

escort 8500 94.9 points
v1 94.8 points....

escort wins...by a minor margin of course...at this point, you're paying for the directional abilities...

Not surprisingly, my MINI has the best protection with V1 and 2 Blinder laser jammers. I recently found out that laser jammers are legal in most states. How cool is that!

The only reason 8500 won is because of value, $100 cheaper. For pure performance without price consideration, V1 outperformed 8500. I do love the arrows though.

How much is the cost of a ticket? $100 cost difference is not enough to make a lessor detector a real "value" to me. V1 performance has been outstanding in my experience.

>>Out of 4 radar detectors I currently owned, 2 are V1 and 2 are Passport (8500 & Solo). I've placed 8500 and V1 side by side to do my own comparison. They are indeed very close in range, but on a few occasions, V1 detects earlier. Hence, I have V1 in the 2 cars I drive and the 2 Passports in the other 2 cars my wife drives.

I use to travel a lot between Orange County, CA and Las Vegas on the I15 on my X5. I owned the V1 but borrowed a friend's 8500 and did the same comparison test. In my case the V1 gave a MUCH earlier warning than the 8500. I have been saved by the V1 many times since then! Maybe the 8500 has been updated now but I will stick to my findings until I find out things are different.

Your ticket was more than $399!
How fast were you going? Where did this happened?

Radar Detector! Ha! Here in Germany and throughout Europe they ise cameras. many of them permanently fixed but a lot of them in vehicles. So, on a day to day basis we don't know where whey will be.

If you need to go over the speed limit here n Germany, and most of the time it is 200 KPH (outside city limits) you have no problem.

Yes I do too. But I prefer the looks of the Passport over the V1. And Yes you really are paying for the directional arrows. I am getting very good with them.

No speeding tickets (knock on wood/head)

Arrows are good. Why doesn't Passport or one of the cheapies just copy that, they could sell a ton of them. I love my V1 although the phone cord plug thing isn't tough enough for this kind of connection, but that is a small complaint.

Anyone ever hear of the radar detectors that are jammers as well? I know they are illegal in SOME states, but do they work? They claim to be the best...

The "Arrows" are patented, so don't look fo it on other detectors anytime soon.

I was disapointed not to see the BEL 975r in the remote test. I have been looking at it since my last ticket and was putting it on the IRS refund wish-list. Anybody here happen to have one?

I like both the V1 and the 8500, I realy don't like the idea of advertising to would be thiefs or already anoyed law inforcement personel.

Has anyone done a permanent power install for their radar detector? I have the V1 and given the cramped space near the 12V outlet (I need to plug in my iPod & mobile) I'm thinking of using the V1 permanent kit (only $13 or so).

Be curious to hear if it's easy to clamp in to a switched circuit and then route the wire thru the dash.

Think V-1 + countermeasures...Escort ZR3 Shifter. That's the way to go.

Blinder radar jammer works well with V-1, whereas ZR3 is designed for Escort 8500.

You can use "add-a-fuse" kit to tap into the fuse box in the driver's side kick panel. Run the wire along the A-pillar and across the top of windshield. Connect to the radar mounted on the windshield behind the rearview mirror.

Hi all-

These are some great posts and a great topic.... Since the addition of the MCS to my foot, its a bit heavy now. I have trouble keeping it out of the right pedal... So tonight I picked up a Escort passport 7500s. Its a dashboard / window mount, but looking to hardwire it-- steath is a must-- any ideas of the best place to mount it.

on another note, just installed the Viper 690XU alarm... everything went in clean... looking to make my dectector a clean install as well. I am thinking of the driver side dash... any ideas? I would love to hear them. Thanks to davecsumini for posting the article from motor trend.

Need some advice...

Along the lines of radar-detectors. I have an Escort 7500, is it worth it to upgrade to a V1, or just stay with what I have? I don't drive TOO nutso, and generally stay
10MPH or less over the speed limit. So I suppose my ticket risk is low?

thanks,

-Matt

Probably. But stay with the flow of traffic. If you go a lot faster they will spot you without radar.

Let the really fast guys lead the way. I know. And I have a V1 for many years.

And I have gotten a non radar ticket.

Regards,
Red
