You are not comparing two similar cars. The only thing similar is they are Minis. One is a Cooper S Clubman and the other is a Cooper S Hatchback with the John Cooper Works package. Can't compare apples to oranges.

Read the US ad a little more carefully: it's a JCW Clubman.

Yes they are different vehicles: One's MCS, the other a Clubman. Both are JCW, both are 2009, both have similar mileage

Yup you are right. Perhaps the one wants to unload his quicker, but than again cars are more expensive with our northern friends. It is good to be in the U.S. of A. As strong as the Canadain looney is, they have some really strong buying power. Seeing how I live 4 miles from the border, they are all over here shopping.

I personally do no like the Clubman, not sure if it is a less desirable Mini. It is a real bugger for you to import a car purchased in America to Canada? Isn't it all the fees?

I disagree. There was a big scandal a while back about Honda pricing, particuarly the popular Honda Odyssy minivan. It seems Honda did research and figured out that the USA price (not sure, call it $35k) was beyond what Canadians were willing to pay for a similar vehicle. So they dropped the price in Canada by about $10k+.

This created a new market - cars bought in Canada for 1/3 less, and then resold
as semi new but heavily discounted cars in the USA.

Honda became wise to this scheme, and then declared that any car bought in
Canada would not be serviced in the USA under warranty. Canadian dealers
were told to not service Canadian cars with American registrations.

This left quite a many people stuck when it came time to have the transmission
fixed, which evidently had a design flaw and they all broke.

My former co worker ended up having his van sit a year (like 1 year old van),
and somehow ended up getting approval to have it serviced in Toronto or
Montreal I forget. Anyway, he drove up there in like 4 gear only and had to
stay over a week.

So for sure different countries can get different selling prices.

 

Canadians do get shafted on car prices, and MINI is no exception. Both used and new. For what I paid for my low mile '06 R50, I could have picked up a used GP down south

However, we have a lot more free space to drive around in with our lower population density, so we get more fun out of our cars
