I put our car seat in the back for about a week w/o any kid of padding between it and the seat. Now I've got two lovely dents in the leatherette
I'm putting a towel under the seat to keep this from getting worse. Anyone know if those dents will go away with time?

Yup, the foam will go back to it's original shape, it's worse when the temps are cold outside, go to Wal-Mart and buy the rubber mats you line your kitchen cabinets with, it comes in all different colors and will protect your seats.

Go to any Toys R Us and you can find a rubber mat almost like a floor mat to go under the car seat. My Mini has had a car seat from day one. The mat also catches all crumbs, puke and spilled drinks. It is well worth 20 bucks. If you can't find one at a Toys R Us try Onestepahead.com, they have about everything for kids and babies.

Good call on the rubber mat, Wendy. I have one under the child seat in both cars ('02 MCS and '00 GTI 1.8T) and these mats have saved the seats from "foam dings", leather damage and compression spots. Although it protects well from spills as Wendy stated, it's still a good idea to check underneath after a big spill. My 3-year old thought it might be fun to empty out the contents of his sippy cup into his lap one day and car seat and the mat caught most of the spill. Nevertheless, I decided to remove the car seat and mat and do a thorough clean. Sure enough, there was a bit of seepage under the mat (the liquid came around the sides) and I had to still clean and dry the seats. If I hadn't done that, I'm sure it would have been a big moldy, mildewy (and stinky) mess after a few weeks. Ah, the pleasures of parenthood!
Anyhoo, the brand of the mat is Prince Lionheart. I've seen it available in Babies R Us and similar stores that carry baby products/car seats. You can also Google "Prince Lionheart carseat mat" and find it that way. This is a great product...heavy duty rubber, very pliable and I custom cut it for both applications. It can easily be trimmed to shape with a pair of big, sharp scissors (I traced the cutouts first with a marker after an intial fitting). The mat for the MCS required cutouts on the middle section to access the "LATCH" anchors (depends on your car seat as well).

I deal with the devil on a daily basis, Target and K-Mart are too far away.
