Alex, any idea how long it would take to get four of these, or am I going to have to go with something else?

I had these tires in the 205/50 16's on order from November to about 2 weeks ago through Alex and the Tire Rack. We could not get any ship date from Goodyear so I switched to the Bridgestone S-03's.

 

Eeek! Sounds like I'll have to go with something else. Too bad. I've heard they are pretty good and much less expensive than the other tires I was considering.

Alex told me he couldn't guarantee that there wouldn't be rubbing issues. I got them anyway and I couldn't be happier. No rubbing whatsoever and the ride comfort is like night and day compared to the runflats on other MINI's in my club. And so far, no one who's driven my car to compare to his/hers has noticed any less grip through the curves with my slightly larger tires. I love them !

All the size info you want is on TR's web site. I would not get the 205/55/16's for several reasons. 1. SpeedO error, you will be going faster than indicated. 2. rubbing issues if you use wheels with less than O.E. offset and more so if you've lowered your car also. 3. The car should handle better on the 205/50's. All that said the 205/55's should work on O.E. wheels even if lowered a little and they are good tires.

 

Thanks for all the responses guys. Given the ridiculously long back order for the Goodyears I've opted to go with some Dunlop SP9000's for now (205/50). Would have preferred some Michelin Pilot Sports but they were just a bit too pricey.

I ordered the Panasport wheels and tires last night. The shop I'm dealing with came highly recommended and I have to agree. The guy I spoke with was really helpful and this way the tires will be mounted and balanced when I pick up the wheels. He's also throwing in "chrome" (or maybe polished is a better word?) lugs to replace the standard ones on the car. Turns out he had a classic Mini at one time in my same color combination.

Hopefully by the time I need tires again the Goodyears will be more readily available. What's the point of offering a tire that people can't buy???

 

Robyn, I have heard from some that the Dunlop SP9000's are prone to road noise, but you may want to pose this question seperately to see what some who are running them think.

Thanks Dan. I have had the Dunlops previously on my M3 and haven't noticed any real difference between them and the Pilot Sports. Besides, my radio is usually on so I wouldn't notice the difference anyway.

 

SP9000s are pretty noisy, but compared to the S03's they are about the same.
Its just part of the trade-offs of having a high perf tire. :smile:

I wonder how different the 205/50/16 SP9000's are vs my 205/45/17 SP9000
runflats...

All I know is I ran 245/40/17 SP9000's on the M without a whole lot of noise issues.

 

It is a shame that the Goodyears are on such a non confirmable back order. I got them last Spring and could not be happier with them. They are off the car now, (winter in NY state), so, hopefully I'll get one more summer out of them.
Maybe I should order a new set now???????

Unless you've converted, the Mini uses bolts not lugs. Make certain that's what he's giving you. The lugs will otherwise take up space in your garage.

I'm looking to get the Panasports too. Can you say who the dealer is and how much he's charging for the wheels and tires? Also would appreciate a review/report on the wheels. Some have expressed concerns at the weight and offset (only 40) of the Panasports.

Can't give a report on the wheels since I don't have mine yet, although I know someone who has them on his car and has no complaints. The shop I'm dealing with is in Reading, PA. It's called KAM Specialties. The Panasport FS-16's were $234 each. I'm also getting my tires through him so everything will be mounted and balanced when I pick them up. It cost a bit more but everything's taken care of and like I said he's throwing in a few extras to make it worth my while. Very nice to deal with in person. The guy who answers the phone usually has less personality than the guy I dealt with behind the counter. Just a heads up. Their number is 610-777-9702. If you're at all local I recommend at trip to the shop!

I can't wait. Should be getting a call that they're ready any day now.
