Replacing stock front speakers

Hello,

Wanted to get your opinion on replacing the front stock speakers (non HK system). I recently added a shallow mount pioneer subwoofer, along with a single channel sub-amp and it sounds fantastic. The subwoofer comes in a slim enclosure, so it doesnt take almost any space in the tiny trunk. I can post some pics if anyone is interested.

I Would love some more high's and mid by replacing the front speakers. I dont want to add another amp. I would like to use the stock head unit and add something more efficient. Do you think these Alpine's would do the job? Or anything anyone could recommend.

Cheers

we really need more info on what system is in the car to be able to make and educated guess as to if those will work or not

Do you have the Base, or HiFi?
what year is you car?
What options (bluetooth, NAV etc) do you have?

I have the non-hifi sound system. The most basic one. The car is 2010 Mayfair Cooper. I have the bluetooth option, but no NAV.

Hope this helps.

Polk Audios with a high db sensitivity (DXi series). Picked them up at Best Buy...it makes an incredibly huge difference.

Thanks zero10. Did you simply upgrade the speaker or added an amp as well?
Is yours non-hifi base sound system as well?

No amp, and I'm on a regular Boost system (standard). I've changed out the front speakers with Polk Audio DXi650s and DXi350s. I've channel swapped to put the under 100hz signal to the rear speakers, which I haven't swapped out yet. I also have a small JVC powered subwoofer mounted in the rear, coming off the rear signals (which used to be the front signal).

I just looked, and I'm not seeing the DXi350s at the Best Buy web site anymore, but they have the 650. Might find some 35os at a local store, who knows...but you can get them at Crutchfield. And honestly, not too convinced the upper smaller speakers needed to be changed out...it didn't sound bad with just the larger ones swapped out (drove like this for awhile before doing the smaller speakers)

Didn't rewire all the speakers, didn't feel it to be necessary at the low watt rating of the head unit. Just snipped off the OEM connectors, and soldered on the appropriate ones for the speakers.

With a higher db sensitivity, you get more perceived volume with the same wattage. the Polk Audio DXi650 is rated at 92db@1 watt, and the 350s are 91db@1 watt.

DXi650 at Best Buy is $79.99, or at Crutchfield for $74.99. DXi 350 at Crutchfield is $44.99.

Here's the post when I first completed it. It says I'm running my Fader at +2 to the rear, but I'm at 0 now. And the cost I posted then is more than what you can get them for now. They're excellent speakers, proof you don't need to spend a fortune to get better sound out of an otherwise average system. I'd put it up against an OEM HK system any day and sound much better.

This is a prime example of marketing at its finest. Quart hasn't been worth a crap since they were bought by maxxsonics about a decade ago. Alpine, on the other hand, employs Scan-Speak as their primary build house and Scan easily builds some of the best sounding drivers on the planet. If you wanted "Quart" drivers then look at GermanMAESTRO speakers. That company was started by the original Quart engineers and uses their original factory in Obrigheim.

Beyond that, one is not "better" than the other. Alpine speakers are much more laid back where Quarts (or the germanMAESTROs) are much more of a "live" sounding drivers. They are VERY different and IMO, the Quart/MAESTRO sets sound much more like live music but not everyone likes that.
