I know somebody will tell me to do a search, and I have. But I want to start autocrossing this upcoming season, and need some advice. I have a 02 cooper, with intake, exhaust, and lowered. I run on the street 17" wheels, with 215 tires, but for track use I thought about using my stock "holeys" with either stock continentals (decent tires) or getting some kumho race tires? I am also interested in talking to others locally, who have done this, I am in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and want to seriously start soon. Thanks in advance for your help

cheers, jason

In Hawaii, Erik808 autoxes his Cooper. I believe he has intake, exhaust and 17s on his car. By virtue of the intake and exhaust, he cannot run in the stock class and runs in STS. So, looking at our list of mods, you'll probably be running in STS, too. If you return your car to stock, it'll be H stock.

For more info, check the SCCA section in this forum.

Thanks for the help, Do you think I could be competitive in STS class? Or would I be lost with a whole bunch of supercars.

cheers, jason

My suggestion is to put back your stock suspension and run in the stock class unless you want to spend a lot of money on the other mods to be competitive. I met a guy last season who had a number of mods from Mini Mania and had to run in STS and was slower than I was in my GS street tire class. Or... just go out and have a good time and see what you want to do after a few times at the track.
Good Luck

Look here for info for things in your area. Contact someone oh that web page and they will be able to help you I’m sure. Read the rules at http://www.scca.com/ for your best class, or what class you will fall into now. For the first year you will be out driving, feeling how the car feels and acts, and will learn what you need to add (or take off) to make you go faster. In the end it's a love to drive the car. It’s always fun even if you do not win, but as time goes by you will. Good luck
