It won't hurt your reception one bit. Go for it!!!

I used a unit from a Honda S2000 and it works quite well. It cost about $20, but I'm sure the Pilo unit would work just as well - certainly looks the same. A lot of folks have used the S2000 unit by the way.

I got a blue stubby from minicooperparts.com. It didn't affect the reception at all. It still sucks just as much as when I first got the car.

There are multiple threads on here about using stub/shorty antennas (feel free to do a search for more info). The general feeling has been that they don't really have any noticeable difference in reception quality. They also get rid of the "remote controlled car" look that our mini's have been given from the factory. Well worth the money IMHO.

S2000 antenna here; looks great and no discernable signal degradation to speak of.

I have the Honda S2000 as well, the Honda Element on will fit also. You can order them directly thorough Honda or check out http://www.clairparts.com, sometimes they have them much cheaper. Check in their Honda Section. I just got mine from a Honda dealer and talked them down in price, it was less than $20 overall.

cheers

I've got the stubby from Alta Performance. Looks great and no drop in reception.

Only negative, my Italian Job antenna topper won't fit it.

I had the aluminum stubby from MINI Mania and reception really sucked! It looks cool, but I need good reception in Hawaii with all our mountains. Gave it away a couple weeks ago.

s2000 antanae as well (you could also say Honda Element antenae, it's the same unit) no problems with reception either. but I did try it for a while without an antenae, and there was very little loss in range..

got mine when the folks bought an element last week and had them tack it on when they were negotiating price. (read: free antenae for me) :???: :???:

I have the same aluminum stubby from MINI Mania - I agree, it looks cool but reception with it sucks here in Hawaii (although the stock was not the best either).

Me too! Got mine from Outmotoring.com
Didn't notice any change and looks better.
And you don't have to remove it to go through
the car wash!

I know someone with the $15 stubby from Moss and haven't noticed any reception problems. I have one on the way for myself.

I was going to replace my antenna until I kept reading that the original antenna makes the car look like a remote controlled car. I think that's cool so I'm keeping my original antenna.

I also added the S2000 antenna. I got it off the web for like 12 bucks and it works just fine. We took a trip in December that took us from Detroit to Cleveland and I was able to pick up a strong Detroit station (89X) almost all the way to Cleveland. That is about 200 miles or so. Not sure if it would have been better with the other antenna, but I was not fond of the long whip look. I wanted short and sleek. Hope that helps some.

I replaced the RC style antenna with the one from a Honda S2000 (my first mod ). My friends no longer make fun of the Mini and I get better reception on some Pirate Radio stations near my home.
