First off, Welcome to NAM!

I think I'd recommend canning your Dunlop run-flats in favor of something, well, non-runflat. You want great tire for not much $$$, I'd say go for the Yokohama AVS ES100 in 205/50-16 - only $79/each at Tire Rack.

However, if you need an all-season and not a summer tire, your choices are yukkie - the BF Goodrich Traction T/A seems to be the only decent tire besides the stock run-flats

Good luck,
Ryan

Get rid of the run-flats. The Yok AVS is a great tire for the money, for a bit more, I like the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS D3 and if price is the no object, the best tire is the Bridgestone SO3. Any non run-flat, will last longer, ride softer and give better traction.

Good luck

I too like the concept of the runflats (my wife), what would you recommend for me to get a better ride quality and to get you back home safely?
Say 215/45/17 ish.

I just changed my 16" Dunlop all season tires to the Bridgestone S-03's on 16" V-Spokes. Right out of the shop the ride is noticeably quieter and smoother. It will take a few hundred miles before the S-03's are "broken in." But so far, a real winner! I had the Goodyear's F1's on order in the 205/50 16 size, after over two months with no expected delivery date, I switched my order at the Tire Rack for the S-03's. I can't wait for my two track dates at Thunderhill and Laguna Seca in April/May.

I took off the run flats and went with Yokohama's. The ride is better and they are good in the rain. A good tire at a good price.

I just installed 215/45/17 Yokohama AVS ES 100 on my 2002 MCS with the stock wheels. They are wonderful! What a great improvement over the poor quality runflats. Ride is better, handles a lot better and is so much quieter.

i removed my 16" runflats and put on 15" bridgestone winter tires for skiing. i have not taken them off; they handle so much better than the runflats and i will replace them with 16" summer non runflats for sure. the S03's probably given the way these handle.
the all season runflat ride and handling is inferior to that of the winter non flats!

Not exactly what you were asking about, but I think it proves a point. I have 17" s-lites with stock Pirelli Euphoria runflats.... swapped them out with 15" steel rims wearing Bridgestone Blizzak snow tires. Not all seasons, but full blown snow tires....

they are quieter, more comfortable ride, and more controlable under normal driving than the runflat performance tires....

plus they are unstoppable in the snow....

Just swapped back to the runflats, as I think the snow is about over here in Nashville, and the difference is night and day. The Pirelli's are in nearly new condition and I am seriously wanting to go ahead and replace them with standard tires due to the horrible ride. Sure, they handle better under extreme driving, but for just daily commuting it's like driving on concrete, and god forbid you hit some imperfections in the pavement, the steering wheel just lashes back and forth makeing you almost wrestle to regain control.

Not to the point of being scary, but who would think that SNOW TIRES would handle better than performance tires. I wouldn't autox with them, but the difference is amazing....

Currently pulling my hair out picking a replacement tire. Both the Yokohama AVS and Parada's look tasty....

Parada's are a great sticky tire...but noise levels will escalate at over 5,000 - just something to be aware of. And to stay on topic - the difference in the ride going to a non runflat is huge.

Welcome,

I got the Yokohamas non run flat. I think they ride better.

Hi. I don't mean to hijack, but quick question: Can I fit non RF tires on stock 16" wheels? Or do I have to buy new wheels?
