Tips on Kayak transport
I have a 2010 S with the factory roof rack on it. My wife just gave me a 14 foot sea kayak (55 lbs) as a birthday gift. She has a friend that is letting her user her kayak of the same dimensions for the season.
So, do I need to get the OEM kayak rack or can I go with something else, hopefully cheaper. Will carrying these 2 kayaks at once be weight problem? I would think most trips would be short, but if I did do a highway trip would wind be an issue?
Any tips would be appreciated, I don't suddenly want a convertible.

If it wast just the one kyayk you could just chuck it up there. Just drove 400 mile like this:
I use Thule folding kayak racks on my roof rack. Works great even carry three some times. As long as the bolts are long enough to go around the thick bars on the MINI rack you should be okay. BTW the MINI cross bars are the same size a Thule Aero Bars so what ever fits those will fit you MINI. Thule and Yakima both make adapter kits for the thicker bars.
