CV Boot Grease Question

Hey Guys,

I am about to replace both my inner and outer cv boots on the passenger side of my 2007 mini s. I got the kit from the dealership and I know that the inner and outer use different grease. My question is which grease is the inner and which grease is the outer? I have a 130ge and an 80ge. Does anyone know which is for the inner and which is for the outer?

Thanks

I did not know this... I used the same on my Audi inner and outer. But, I would just ask a service tech at the dealer. They would for sure know.

From Audi experience...

if that helps: the bigger grease capacity typically goes on the outer joint. If the boot is bigger on the outside (always has been on cars I have done), another simple way to confirm. Inner joint only has to handle in and out axle movement with suspension and a limited deflection angle, while outer one has to handle full lock to lock steering angles. Thus, bigger joint area = more grease.

I expect the grease is functionally the same, just varying quantities. I have seen it packaged differently from boot to boot kit, but found it all fundamentallly the same stuff.

That's weird, MINI instructions say to use the 130g into the inner (transmission side and blue dots) and the 80g on the outer (wheel side and yellow dots).
