pick my tires for me.

was shopping all day at work today and settled on BFG Gforce sports. went to discount where i was informed that they could not be had, for whatever reason.

so i want to leave it to you guys/girls.

requirments:
the best summer performance tire in 215/45/17, around 100-130 bucks a piece, that will last around 30k miles. and my main concern is PERFORMANCE, dont care if its noisy, or rides harsh ( as a harsh ride usually means better turn in) .

any input would be great. thanks guys!

I don't know if they are the size/price you want but for all out performance it's either Bridgestone RE-11 or Dunlop Starspecs.

You have tough requirements in wanting both performance, 30,000 miles, and <$130. While tires like the RE-11 are great tires they will last more like 10,000 miles. You are going to need something around the 300+ wear rating to even hope to get 30,000 miles. I think the BFG Gforce tires you were looking at are 340 which is probably about right for your requirements. I usually get tires around 280 rating and get about 16,000. To get a little more wear you will need to look at the Ultra High Perf Summer tire category instead of Max Perf.

In your price range and UHP category, I would suggest:
- Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport ($136, 340 wear). A little more expensive than you want.
- Dunlop Direzz DZ101 ($101, 300 wear). Will wear faster than you want.

In the Max Perf category, I would suggest:
- Hankook Ventus V12 ($89, 280 wear) Will wear faster than you want but a great tire for the price.

You might also want to look at 215/40-17 tires.

I am going out on my own and putting Firestone Wide Oval Indy 500 on my car today. They have a 320 wear rating and are showing up pretty high on tireracks survey. The buy 3 get one free sale going on now lets me get them at a decent installed price locally.

Some are saying the wet performance is a bit lacking when they are new, but I am not going to be pushing tires in the wet.

All in all it sounds like I should be happy with them. They will be on next time I sit at the computer.

760's have the best chance at 30k of all the listed tires, agreed.

well i went a little high on price and went with the conti extreme contact DWS, in 215-45-17 out the door at discount it was $760. a much meatyer tire, looks really good, rides smoother and quieter, but seems to be allot less grip, than my 205-45-17 kumhos. but i have only driven them about 2 miles so far, so hopefully they will get better in the next 50 miles or so.

the tires were put on Saturday after work, i dropped it off at 2:30 went home and took a nap.....woke up at 7 discount is closed, and closed sunday with my mini inside. so just got it back this morning and was only able to drive it the 2 miles from discount to work. I cant wait till lunch!

Those are the tires my friend uses as his dedicated winter/snow tires.

I considered them, but I went with yokohama avid envigors ($400 a set) since they were more of a dry/wet all season high performance tire.

Give those tires a few heat cycles and a chance for the mold release to go away and then you can really push the tires.

WOW! I had bought my DWS (215/45/17) from the Tirerack for under $500 shipped (mounted and balanced myself). $760 is some serious markup for these tires. I ended up having 2 of the DWS tires that were confirmed to be out of round. I used Conti's 60-day satisfaction guarantee and upgraded to the Conti ExtremeContact DW rather than replace the DWS.

well the 760 includes mount balance, and 37 dollars a tire for the road hazard insurance thing so thats 148, plus i have a 100 dollar rebate coming in the mail.so after rebate the total cost is 512 for the tires + 148 for road hazard. not too bad. wish i had access to a mount and balance machine, i used to work at NTB so i know how to use them.

I really preferred the DWs but last minute my dad said he would buy this set of tires for me, and that he never would again. so i decided to go with a longer lasting tire.

Dunlop Direzza Star Specs Z1

They may wear a bit fast, but you'll have some the best performance tires for the street.

215/45/17
300wear

PILOT SUPER SPORT.......

is my pick.
I am using it on my clubbie

while my R53 is running on RE-11.

I have not track the PSS yet. but on street I feel the PSS have better response and is quieter than RE11. In wet, No comparison, the PSS rules.

I would look at these or the Kumho XS. I have driven on both and they both have amazing amounts of grip. The Kumho may do better in wet traction for one reason or another. You wouldn't think that by looking at the tread pattern, but its wet traction was excellent.
