PC vs Griots: 2.0
PC vs Griots: 2.0
Sorry if this has been asked recently, I did search but only found a thread back from 06.
I'm looking at getting the Griots orbital polisher, I like the way the handle is compared to the porter cable but wanted to see if anyone is aware of any downsides to it compared to the PC.
Any feedback would be great, thanks!

They talk about this quite a bit on autogeek. Everyone seems to like both, with the edge probably going to the Griots. On the other hand, most people seemed to agree that the PC 7424XP felt more heavy duty (it could take a lot of abuse). From everything I've read, you probably can't go wrong with either polisher. I have the PC 7424XP and I'm quite happy with it.
Just a couple of suggestions: if you do go with the PC, make sure you get the 7424XP (you can still get the old 7424 at some places) and get a 5" backing plate and 5.5" pads (don't get the 6" plate or 6.5" pads)

Now for door #2. I have the Griot's random orbital and feel very comfortable using it for both polishing and waxing. The video from Griot's is good to watch for nothing more than a greater confidence level before venturing into the job. They show the proper techinque. Prior to polishing, be sure to claybar and always claybar before applying wax.
One thing that might help is Griot's Detailer's Handbook item #10212. Also, when ordering stuff for the first time, buy the products by 'kit' number. You save a few bucks and the exact things you need for that particular job are included. Their microfiber cloths are outstanding. If you've got questions they are very helpful both by email or phone.
You wouldn't be out of line posting some before and after pictures of your work either.
