Drivetrain Countryman Exhaust Basics?
Countryman Exhaust Basics?
Can someone explain the basics of the Countryman S exhaust -
I see the downpipe feeds into what I assume is a cat?
Next is some sort of flexible joint.
Next are 2 canisters (muffler? resonator? 2nd cat?)
Finally there's a side-inlet muffler (?) with a pipe on each end, with a 90 deg. bend out to the tips.
Is there a quick and dirty way to get a better exhaust note out of this car?
Thanks,
RT

Seems to be the only place in the country with parts for the R60.. http://www.vipcustomparts.com/R60%20parts%20page.htm
I would contact him to see what kind of options you have.

If you aren't looking for performance, just sound, new tips make a difference. I have 4" dual wall stainless tips. They make it throatier, deeper and a little louder. And they look better that the oe ones.
For now, I'm just looking for it to sound a little meaner. I'm trying to fight off the urge to start modding as long as possible..... BTW, what does "lots of ECU mods" mean... are there ECU options for the CTM yet?
And what are the cans in the middle of the exhaust? Two resonators?

What's a CTM?
Alta AccessPort will probably the way to go...once they take the "TBA or TBD" off.
I would do the Exterior or Interior first and then the performance once the:
1. Warranty is up.
2. More MFRs to choose from.

If you want a full exhaust, VIP makes a system for the CM (but not the All4), and I believe Scorpion makes one too.

Thanks guys, I didn't think tips would make any difference other than looks, I'll probably go with tips for now, then let others experiment with the best options for cat back exhaust.

Scorpion has a nice one for the CM, but I don't see it available in the US. The VIP one states it is not for street or public highway use.
We were looking into upgrading the exhaust on our CM, but don't see anything either. Maybe tips is the way to go for now.
I just put the NM Engineering exhaust on my MCS and love it.

I was thinking about the Magnaflow, but I"ll let others do the trial and error, and just copy the successful trials. I know sometimes a different muffler and/or reso delete sounds great.... sometimes it sounds like crap. What I really want is electronic cutouts, especially with all that space just in front of the muffler. :-) But I think some 4" tips are the best option for now.
Next week Supersprint will start studying my cooper S ALL4 for a complete exhaust system
I'll give the car the 28th of April and I'll take it back the 6th of may... I'll keep u update
My car will mount a full SS exhaust: downpipe - 200 cat - street legal central and final exhaust (prob with 80-90mm tail tips)

many mini dealers are mod friendly. With my r53 the mechanics (not the service personal, the mechanics.. they understand, the service personnel are bmw trained idiot monkeys) encouraged me to pulley it and do intake/exhaust as it will not effect the car in terms of things breaking during the warranty period. for exhaust, id say do new piping, post flex joint and put in a good muffler and new tips. Its a turbo car, so it doesn't take a lot to get it quiet enough for a dd, and if you just buy the pipe and a few u bends and the muffler and weld it up (i can weld.. not sure if you have this lovely car-modding skill) it will cost you under $400
I left the car @ supersprint today
They will fit some sweet 100mm tail pipes... As concern the downpipe and front exhaust, they are different from the cooper S hatchback (it's different also between country S ALL4 and standard country S)... They will see if the 200cell euro5 kat will work without any CEL or if it will need some kind of emulator for the lambda (oxygen sensor)
