R55 Clubman Roof Rails
Clubman Roof Rails
Hello all, does anyone have a source for the Clubman Roof Rails p/n 51137174117 and 51137174118? I called BMW in Toronto and they want $300 per side
.
I've seen all the posts regarding the rack which clips onto the raintray, and I'm just going to avoid that whole fiasco. I want something that can support my 13ft 80lb kayak without issues and a roof rail system is something I would trust a little more. The downside of course being that I have to drill the roof.
Thanks

Hi,
I have the MINI roof rack, and it does work. I have used it to support 3 whitewater kayaks of ~120 lbs total weight.
If I could, I would get the roof rails as well. The roof rack simply is not holding up. The brass nuts that hold the clamps down are starting to strip out (one has, but is still sort of working). I tightened them using the torque wrench supplied, and they were not stripped before using the racks for awhile.
I also find the system a 'pain in the ****' to put on and off. Thankfully, I just leave mine on all the time. Also, there were a lot of issues with it on the clubman (before they had the roof rails). The third door would leak.
Again, I'm not saying it's an option, just not as nice as the roof rails. I got my clubman before the rails were available. I hope you find them for a reasonable cost, as I may follow your lead and get them!

Thanks Heli-guy, you've confirmed my fears. It appears that Atlanta Mini may have the best deal at $188/side, but I need to see if they ship to Canada.
My other option is to buy a Countryman.....crazier things have happened

Are you planning on installing the rails yourself? When we bought our clubman they were required as I am an avid cyclist, but our MA told us they were not an aftermarket option, so we bought a car with them already installed. At least not an option that he wanted to deal with. So hopefully you have gotten the details on exactly what to drill into.

It has pictures of a DIY installation of the roof rails. Knew I had seen a discussion of this before,
Good luck with yours and post pic's if you do it or have whoever does it take pic's when they do it.
