Rim options

So Spring is finally here and I think I want some white shoes on the Koopa. I figure my 2 options would be to buy a new set for a few bucks, or getting a paint shop to paint my existing ones.

So, what do you think would be the best option? Fork out a few extra bucks for new rims, or go the cheap rout and just have them painted.

you can usually get them powdercoated for 250-300 bucks. which should be pretty durable. Depends if you like the style you have. I think the 84's in white look amazing. (not sure what you have currently)

otherwise your looking at least 5-600, as it seems like the cheaper brands dont make thier wheels in white.

Rim design will obviously be personal preference

Rattle can the ones you have is the least expensive way to go, because you don't have to dismount the tires, just clean them thoroughly, take a scotch pad to them to get a good key, then clean them again, then paint.

Powder coat will look great and be very durable, but you'll have to have the tires removed, then have the wheels sandblasted......

Another option is to watch for a set of factory wheels for sale already factory coated in white.

I believe what I have now are 16 inch X-Lites from the factory, and I really do love the look of them on the car, it's just the grey rim doesn't match anything else on the car. White stripe, chrome trim, green car... It just doesn't match.

I've been keeping my eye in the Market for some, but nothing yet. A nice pair of orange ones popped up today though! The other thing would be that it'll probably be fairly costly to ship a set of rims up here to Canada.

I think my best bet right now is to get them powder coated. Let the professionals do it.

Anyone know how long they'd be in the shop for?

mine have been gone for 2.5 weeks, but the guy here is really busy (had 5 sets before me). It could take only a week at best if its a larger operation.

I would go for both.

..would do what MINIdave suggested...and rattle can those stock wheels. very inexpesive...will look good if you prep well and take your time, lots of good step by step info on here and other sites.

...then, I would keep checking back on tirerack & discount direct...they often have some great deals on clearance, but gotta order quick because stock will be limited.

Of course diy painted wheels wont be as durable...but nothing lasts forever.

I painted some stock wheels...was fun..and they are holding up well.

Thing is, I don't think I'd do a good job. Everything I've taken a can to in my history has ended up with drippy bumps or dirt under the paint. I don't have a garage I can do this in either.

..yep, would be a hassle without garage.

..are you thinking all white wheels...or white with polish lip?

I think these could look good on Mini with white roof:

16x7, only $110 each on discount tire direct

Ooh la la! Those are pretty and the style I'm looking for!

$440 + Shipping is a little more than I have to spend on rims right now though. I just dropped $250 to get my windows tinted. I'm hoping to stay under the $300 mark, but I'm definitely going to bookmark this site and keep my eye out. I checked out that Tirerack.ca site, but couldn't see anything in the price range.

Actually, those would come to $590 after the "Prepaid Canadian Tarriff Fees" which total $200.

Love that look with your colors! I would love a set like that for our '03 Electric Blue/White MCS...but would have to lobby the wife for any changes.
