Tire pressure monitoring system failure

Hi there again,

I had a rear run flat repaired at a small tire shop in the country recently. They fixed the tire fine but the tire pressure alarm light was still showing. Not being aware of how to reset the alarm I just ignored (the tires were fine) it figuring I would get my regular tire shop to look at it when I got home.

Which I did - they told me that the TPMS reset switch seemed to be slightly jammed. They couldn't fix it at the time and didn't have a replacement switch so I'm still stuck with the alarm light. I've tried pressing the reset switch as per the instructions in my manual and then driving off, but no change. The switch only has a very small amount of vertical movement and I'm wondering if that is normal or if the switch may be messed up as the tire shop said. I'm not completely confident in their diagnosis.

I guess I can try changing the switch but I'm a long way from a mini dealer so its a bit of a hassle to go grab a part.

Any thoughts on this or other related experiences??

Thanks,

TC

The parts can be shipped pretty simply....penskee parts and several vendors could source/ship the part...

Try spraying some contact cleaner....some soda/coffe/etcmight have gotten it stuck...
What is your production date?

Just checking....cabrio's depending on production date can have the same system as the gen1 coupes (based upon tire revolutions) or a pressure based system that uses sensors in each wheel and radio to transmitt...much like gen2 cars....the change was phased in to. Meet goverment mandates.
The switch should just be a rocker....minimal movement...but in a bad spot for dirt/soda...
not sure of the actual switchover date on the system..but I think you have the typical gen1 system...
