Exhaust

I am never sure when I am in the right category for my questionaire, but since everyone must think of exhaust systems at one time or another I was wondering if any Mini owners have installed Walker Exhaust sytems. I know a lot go for Magnaflow and other stainless steel jobs but this one is steel a la rusting type but guaranteed for life, or at least as long as you own the car. The Walker sytems come in three grades, Quiet, SoundFX and Trufit, and the price I was given on a top line cat back system was $600 for installation taxes etc. The Walker web site makes it clear that they are International and make products for all domestic and foreign cars. The dealer here had Mini units in stock. Now my Mini is six years old and the outer shell is rusted off the muffler, but the actual muffler looks quite good and is making no noise. I am assuming the unit will need replaced soon and the Walker unit looks good and is identical to the OEM unit. Why that outer shell is a mystery to me as it makes the muffler look huge, but does it serve a purpose? Would like to hear if anyone has used the Walker products.

Haven't heard of walker systems, but it being steel would turn me away from it. Rusting is not a good thing, and if you can avoid it, thats your best bet. Also, stainless has better exhaust flow and is just really a step above. I know also that stainless has better properties for things that are hot, as i've heard that exhaust wraps are pointless on a stainless exhaust, but were designed in the steel exhaust age, to basically do the same thing that stainless does now, just not as well. If you want to get a new, aftermarket exhaust, why not get the invidia, its around the $600.00 mark, it's stainless, and many people love them. It will of course be noisier than the stock system. Or if you just want a new oem exhaust, check the market place here, or craigslist/etc. I've seen free r53 stock exhausts on these places more than enough times for it to be a likely place to find them for free or very cheap. hope this helps

there are a few references to Walker products here, but only a few

Not sure if it's helpful - but try a Google search and use the following string as the search criteria:

"site:northamericanmotoring.com walker exhaust"

Cheers,

Charlie

well the site says that the tru-fit and the sound fx are "aluminized material" and the quiet flow is stainless. so these arent the rusting type, and i can go ahead and take back everything i said, these look qaulity. if it were me, i'd still go for the invidia, but its your decision.

Take a look at Megan Racing -- it is on the loud side, but looks and fit is great
