I got a radar detector within a week of getting my MINI.

I used to average a ticket a year until I put a radar detector in every car I drive, I haven't had a ticket in years now.

I have a Bell 995 in my MINI, It does well. The Valentine 1 is very good, but over priced, in my opinion.

Just Google "radar detector" there is alot of good information there.

I got off with a warning doing 120km+ in a 50 zone at 3am. That was on my CBR.. Never been caught speeding in the car.

I took the Valentine 1 out of the wife's Vette since she only drives around town most of the time and works out of our home. My commute is 45 miles each way so the V1 is a necessity, IMO. It has saved me a few tickets already in the 3 months I've been commuting with the MINI.

I installed it above the RV mirror.

I recently added the remote display to make it even more stealth.

When i was in VA, I got a ticket. It only ended up costing me 25 bucks. But the lawyer and court fees made it come out to about 600.

And yes don't say what illegal act you did to get a ticket, just say what it was or it will get locked.

Yep I live in this horrible state so what ever tickets you've gotten I've got it worse.. I got a ticket for going 6 over went to court for it since it was such a stupid ticket ended up with a $250 fine 40 hours community service and having to take a driving class.... Yayy I hate VA and I would love to have a radar around here but there is no point cause if you get pulled over with one you can't have it anywhere in your car besides your trunk or you get a 250 fine plus court fees and processing fees so around $400 not worth it

That sucks, VA is dumb. I'm an Alaskan resident and apparently if you are under 21 and a VA resident you have to go to sum dumb class i never went and the retards suspended my license.

Yeah, be really careful what you say or this will get locked in a heartbeat. The best advise I got last year when I got a ticket ( a ticket to ride...just like the song) was to get a lawyer. It's not paying the money that hurts, it's the aftermath of insurance and points if your state has that.

BTW The cop didn't follow their rules/regulations so it was dropped. Guess two wrongs don't make a right or something like that

I have a V1 and it's one of the best out there. I used to have an escort 9500ix its great, it has gps to mark down false alerts, red light camera alert, but it wasnt responding to quick trigger. It was only responding to instant-ons. It was a big draw back for me.

the best way to get out of the ticket in my opinion is by being polite to the officer, the person probably heard so many BS the whole day so being polite helps. Making the cop feel relaxed and safe would be another.

I would recommend a decent radar detector. For VA residents and profesional drivers a Bletronics STI Driver Pro is a possible option, but any higher end Beltronics is decent in my book.

Yep, so i was driving on a suspended license for about a year without knowing it, got pulled over for my car being loud cop didn't say anything. then drove 4,000 miles across the US, still suspended. Then went to renew my licensed in Alaska before it expired, just to figure out it was suspended. Even know it was VA's fault i still had to pay the 125 to get it reinstated.

I was slightly wrong it si STI-R Plus. Here is part of my email from Best Radar Detectors:

"Lots of exciting new products have arrived this year. The most anticipated product for radar detector enthusiasts has to be the release of the new Beltronics Sti-R Plus remote radar detector. Based on the Escort 9500ci the Beltronics Sti-R Plus does not force you to buy Escorts Laser Jammer and it sells for $400 less than the 9500ci."

I got a "fine" for driving a road just inside of NC. Ticket was only $10, but the court fee was $115. Apparently the ticket goes to the schools, but the towns can do whatever they want with the court fee. I probably got 10 letters from lawyers claiming to get me out of it for only $250. I called the court to ask about a typo made on the form, and they said they would drop the ticket as long as I paid the court fee.

Show me the money!

for the dollar you might look at the escort passport 8500 x50. not the latest greatest but very good and you can get one now for just under 300$. i've got that and a v1. the valentine is nice with arrows but for 100 more? or even more for the remote silent button? if had 400+ i'd do the valentine but i still think the escort is the deal. of course if you're willing to spend those installed deals look pretty coool

I got 2 tickets a month apart 2 summers ago. The first was $155, the second was like $250. I took them both to court and got both plead down to "speedometer violations" which were 2 points each and $15 fines.

Then I got a radar detector.

Got my first ticket in roughly 30 years, about a year and a half ago.
Clocked at 89 in a 55 in my JCW, but on my way to a planned 130 or so; glad she came along and nailed me when she did, or I would've been in real trouble. Even so, it cost me $250.00.
Last summer IL changed the law; 30 over is now $1200 AND jail time.
I'm being good now, but it ain't easy.

This is odd... I was googling last night because I wanted to see if it was legal or not... I found this:

"The use of a radar detector in a passenger vehicle is legal in all states with the exception of Virginia, Washington DC. and on military bases. Radar detectors are illegal in all commercial vehicles weighing over 10,000 pounds."

In areas that radar detectors are illegal, law enforcement use a device called the Spectre that is able to detect the use of radar detector in your car or truck.

If thats the truth than we should all be okay to talk about it ... it seems pretty legal unless I'm missing something?!

I like how you (Patches) have installed yours... I want one too but they can look rather unappealing in your car!

Some of the high end radar detectors are shielded so the detector detectors can't find them.
