2007+ Cooper S Brake Rotors?
2007+ Cooper S Brake Rotors?
I'm in the market for some new rotors (front and rear) for my 2007 Cooper S (non JCW Works).
I like the EBC blackdash series, but the application data is confusing. It seems to refer to the convertible only (seems confused with 2006 and earlier).
Has anyone installed the EBC blackdash rotors on an R56? Which part numbers did you install?
If not, I can find DBA 4000 rotors on Tirerack.com. Anyone try these?
Thanks for your help!

I also have had lots of issues understanding the correct fittings with EBC products as well. And when some of their dealers send you products that do not fit your car, they refuse to do anything about it and EBC will not bother returning calls or e-mails either. So just be really careful with fitment if you decide to buy.
A friend uses DBA and likes it for his R56.

I did slotted and dimpled EBC rotors GD series.
I had orriginally ordered the Ultimax series, but they shipped the GD series instead.
They work extremely well, but the dimples makes a sucking noise that is anoying with the windows down.
Slots are the way to go.
No dimples or drilled holes unless you like noises from your brakes.

What kind of noise does drilled rotors make? I plan on a set of drilled slots from minicarparts.net. They are $138.94ea. I don't want noisy brakes!

Just went thru this on an R56 S.
Totally agreed that frankly both the suppliers and many vendors have very poor listings for this car. I can guess that with the first several years maintenance covered by Mini, there hasn't been a lot of demand for brake parts, and it's just starting to come up about now w/ the 2007's and 2008's. They confuse gen 1 and gen 2, I think the convertible staying on gen 1 for several more years further confuses them, and then the JCW (particularly for gen 2) is hardly understood at all. The vendors catering to Mini's have it straight, but the broad car line types are often sketchy (or wrong) from looking at many listings
Meanwhile if it helps, the way I found to be more confident you are on the right track with a current generation S in any listing is to focus on the front rotor diameter. If the listing is for 294mm/11.6 inch rotors, you should have found it. If it is smaller than that, it is variously the first gen or the non-S cars. Also if it helps, having the EBC page here near my computer by chance, it looks like the front rotor would end with 1488, and would have a prefix of UPR, GD or USR depending on the type of rotor design you picked.
On the rears, there is a lot more commonality in gen 2 diameter (other than JCW), but differences in lug bolt size (14 vs. 12mm) from gen 2 to gen 1. Diameter is 259mm/10.2in. Thus, here rotor diameter isn't even sufficient and you need to be sure you have a gen 2 listing. For EBC, the catalog pages I have say the numerical suffix should be 1490 for either the S or non-S gen 2 cars, and that UPR, GD or USR designs are all options. Some web sites pair the front and rear rotor diameters together too, so if you find the 294mm front choice, then you should have found the gen 2 S fitment group. True of the brakeworld site for example. And yes, if you found the gen 2 convertible group as a listing, that works directly for an R56 S, but of course the gen 2 convertibles only start two years later.
Separately I have used DBA 4000's on a 4.2 V8 Audi. I like the design idea. But, I will have to admit that, like some of your EBC choices too, slotted has led to some pad shutter and minor squeal with lots of in town/mixed use. And yes, even w/ shim plates in, adhesive on the pads, proper bedding (and rebedding) etc. Same to a lesser extent on another higher performance car w/ different factory rotors machined with modest slotting and with EBC red's for pads. Nonetheless inherently both EBC's and DBA 4000's are solid choices for me; just think through whether you want to risk possible side effects of any slotted (or drilled) option.
