Really good phone/nav mount

Just wanted to share a good thing with fellow MINI owners: I just bought a Mountek phone mount and it's a fantastic solution for putting a phone somewhere useful in our cars. It fits (snugly, but it does fit) in the CD slot and has a clamp for whatever you want to put there.

Take a look here:
http://www.mountek.com

I don't have anything to do with these guys, but liked the idea and decided it was worth the $25 (19.99 + 5.00 shipping) to find out if it worked. It's a little difficult to reach the volume **** when it's installed, but I've got the steering wheel control for that so it doesn't bother me. I've got all my music on the phone anyway, so I'm not using CDs. That's the only downside - if you're using the CD player you probably don't want to use this mount since it could break something inside the CD player if you hit the eject button.

I'll take a pic today and add it to the thread. But if you're looking for a cheap, non-permanent mount for a phone or nav, this beats a suction cup on the windshield.

Nice looking solution. I know that my iPhone is going to be my GPS, and I want a good spot for it. Do you have a photo of it in your MINI?

Hmm... I'm doubtful of this solution. Our cars are bouncy, especially if on lowered suspension. The vibration could cause this mount to jiggle up and down, which may cause damage to the CD slot over a prolonged period.

Thank you for sharing this! I was looking for something that could be easy to use and in multiple vehicles. For $20 I'm willing to try it! Just placed my order!

This Mountek MT5000-D is wonderful!

Without the phone and...................................with the phone.

Or even with the slider open on my little Motorola Motocubo

This CD slot cell phone mount positions in just the right "dead space" zone. It can be set in any direction and tilts too. You can point the screen right at you for easy viewing. Top-notch product.

Highly recommend!

I am fascinated by this device, so simple. How well does it old up? Anyone with the Nav or Connected have one and pics of it?

I can't speak to how well it holds up yet, as I just installed it. But the construction has a very solid feel.

Hoping to upgrade to an Android 4.3"-4.7" screen smart phone with NAV next year. I'll be setting that slate in landscape...

Well I have decided that of my case's mounting system won't work in the mini (Rokform), i'm buying the mount. I just like making use of what is basically a useless slot nowadays for me.

Can the height be adjusted ? Otherwise my iPhone and propably most droids will block many of the buttons which I do diddle quite a bit.

I like the ClsVinyl Satellite channel too. !

I concur with the Cravenspeed mount recommendation. Rock solid, doesn't clutter the center tower and allows for cabling to be run cleanly down the steering wheel for power. Oh, and about 20-30 mins to install. Easy peasy.

I have always liked the craven speed mount. My only personal beef with it in comparison to this cd slot mount is that the craven speed isn't portable. I was close to buying that one until I saw this.

Yes, it can be adjust all over the place and even inserted with the tightenning button on the top or bottom, as well as, put into landscape, tilted, angled, etc... The bottom stop you see in the photos comes off if you want too.

The CD area is really a dead space for most people these days. Another nice feature is you don't have to mount it and you can pull it out for use in another car anytime (such as a rental) or friends ride when taking a trip in the shotgun seat. Just pop it out when you sell your car and put it into your next one too.

Classic Vinyl and Classic Rewind, plus CNBC and Bloomberg are all sweet treats of sat radio!

I have been searching for the ultimate mount and I found what I think works the best for me. This consists of a Panavise 6" pedestal (SF Model), a proclip, an Arkon Slim-Grip and an AMSP Dual-T adapter. I tried it without the pedestal first and it worked well, but blocked the cup holder with my huge Note 2 in place. The pedestal is made of steel and hard plastic and is very sturdy. My vision is also getting worse so this gets it closer to my eyes without having to wear glasses. This all costs about $64.

I wouldn't call this height adjustable as you stated.

You can use it so that your devices the size of an iPhone or Galaxy s3 can be positioned below the radio ***** on a 2012 MCS or you can completely flip it over so that it blocks part of your radio display but I would not call it height adjustable. It is still useful for me but some height adjustability would have been nice. It does tilt slightly though in all directions which is a bonus. the tilt can be tightened for heavier objects.

I have been using ProClip's holders and mounts for years.
We had them in the Mustang/Prius/Ranger's and now in both MINI's.

This is the web site and they have a mount for almost every phone out there.

http://www.proclipusa.com/

Here is a pic of my MINI clubman and you can see the mount over on the dash by the glove box.
My iPhone 4S isn't in there just now in this pic, but it faces me just perfect and is very easy to reach and use IF I was to choose to use it while driving.
No holes/No Drilling/No glue

Check them out

Yep, love it, but I took it out of the CD player and wedged it to the left of the steering wheel next to the tach.
