I want to buy an elliptical machine, but I don't know how they are packaged. I imagine they require some assembly, but not sure how big the box is. I am afraid it won't fit in the Clubman... has anyone purchased one? Should I just have it delivered? It is times like this I miss the Rav4 a little.

I imagine they differ slightly enough from one machine to the next that no one will be able to say for sure. The manufacturer or even the retailer should be able to give you the dimensions of the box, and it will be easier to figure out from there.

We bought one a few months ago from 2nd Wind, when we still had the Vue. It was in a long rectangular box, REALLY heavy, and the sales guy had to help us get it into the Vue. It never would have fit in my Clubman. Due to its weight, we had to open the box and carry it into the house piece by piece. Then up a flight of stairs piece by piece. I'd get it delivered if you can.

Yeah, that is pretty much what I thought it would be like.

Thanks!

Inside dimensions of the boot are 49" from the rear doors to the back of the front seats (+/- for how far the seats are moved), the narrowest part of the boot is 32", but is 40" at the door opening, and the door height is 24".

Even if the box had to hang out the back a bit, you might be able to do it depending on the height and width.

NO, it will not fit. Boxes for Ellipticals are huge! You would only scratch the interior trying to work it in there. Trust me, no way to fit it in the Clubman.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I had suspected it was hopeless before I asked. Anyway, we ordered one over the weekend. Luckily my husband remembered spotting this random little fitness equipment place tucked away on a side street, so we were able to go to a place that specialized in this sort of thing... and therefore offered delivery and set up! This means we not only don't have to worry about getting it home, but we also don't have to worry about getting 300 pounds of machine up our stairs.
