Tough Decision

So the original plan was to order a cm all4 and while it was being built, we would sell my wife's mcs. I put the mcs fs on sat night. Sunday someone came and said they wanted it. So this week I have been looking everywhere to buy a mc so I won't have to order it. My wife needs a car and luckily the guy has been patient with me in my search. I told him I would decide this week what I'm doing. Anyway, after searching I can buy my local dealer's all4 demo vehicle with a tiny price break, or there is a new one 0 miles one state over. The only feature we like more in the new 0 mile is leatherette and a moon roof instead of leather in the one here and heated seats.

The one in vegas is 3k more in options I don't really care about, BUT I like the idea of 0 miles. The demo has 2500 and who knows what break in procedures were followed?

Biggest issue is we really do need something soon. My wife has a 2 week training out of state so it buys me some time, but not enough to order.

Your thoughts!?

Have you tried other surrounding dealerships or from another state?

The dealership can trade for it or give them one of their allotments (allowance) for it.

Ummmm i would not personal buy a demo, like you said who knows about the break in period. Prob not followed it was prob driven hard everytime someone test drove it. Like inimini2007 i would see if you can get the dealership to trade one of theres for another one you want from another dealership, im sure they can do that, but dont buy a demo good luck

Plus what is the date the demo was put into service? I may be wrong but usually the dealer is obligated to do that. You won't be getting a full warrantee on that demo either you'll be getting whats left of it. Don't ask me how I know.

20 something years ago I purchased a demo Chevy Blazer with a reduced warrantee and all I can say is I would never, repeat never, buy another demo vehicle again.

As others have mentioned, perhaps you ought to check other dealers within a reasonable traveling distance. Also, dealers usually order basic equipped cars so they're easier to move off the lot.

Good Luck. Buying a new car should be a fun experience I hope it works out for you.

I would also say do not buy the demo. Find a new one. I think you will be glad you did. Check online stock at other dealers, while not always accurate you can do it online and you never know what you might find. Going through the work to find a new one will be worth it in my opinion.

Thanks for the input.

As for dealers buying basic models, that has not been my experience at all. I have only seen loaded vehicles so far.

I do agree though on the Demo. Time go start searching today.

Thanks!

Why not order and get what you want. Even if you had to do a short term lease on a car to drive in the interim, it might save you money if you have to buy a vehicle with more features than you want.

^by the time you get something, register it etc I can't see that being worth the time or hassle for 3 months. I just wish her car had taken a while to sell

Perhaps you should offer to buy the demo if they throw in the extended warranty for free. Then it wouldn't matter much what abuse the first 2500 had put on it.

May be you can rent a car in the mean time. At least when you order your new mini, it will be exactly what you want. I'm in the same boat too if I do order a Mini CM, I can trade the car in or sell myself and have to deal with if the sale happens earlier than expected but then again, you get the best price for the car when you do a private sale. Good luck.

We sold our 06 MCS sooner than we thought and our CM got here later than we thought so we had to go three weeks with only one car. It was a pain but worth it as we got several thousand more than if we had traded it in.

You also might want to ask the dealer about new CM's they have in transit that aren't sold and just aren't on the lot yet. When we were looking at getting a CM our MA pulled out order sheets and showed us all the ones that were coming in the next few weeks which were dealership orders.

They are sending me a full list of all cars available right now and what is coming in that hasn't been spoken for.

The demo has an extended warranty which adds 4 months and an extra 5,000 miles to the 4 year 50,000 mile warranty, although the warranty did start 2 months ago. So If I were to get the demo, I would pick up an extra 2 months of warranty and 2500 miles.

They charge for the cars from other dealerships to be shipped to them and I do not have the option of flying out and driving it home unless I do my paperwork at the other dealer (makes sense because they are not the same company).

We haven't seen one with Gravity Polar Beige, Polar Beige Color Line, Chrome Line Interior/Exterior, etc. Everything on the lots that we've seen seems to all be within certain generic parameters.

Sure the dealers get some with Black Leather, some w/ steptronic, some manual, etc. But when it comes down to the minutia details that you may want the dealer isn't going to get stock vehicles too specialized as some people may not want to spend the money or care to have the Chrome Line, Driving Lamps, etc.

Kind of like when you build a spec home. Best thing to do is get the permit for the pool from the municipality and have it in place since maybe the potential customer might not want a pool, leave the kitchen unfinished so the customer can choose the cabinets, granite countertops, backsplash and appliances (I'm talking high end spec homes). Just sayin........
