Standard Stereo, non Hi-Fi, Antenna
Does anyone know if the R56's with standard stereo have an amplified Antenna?
I've had my aftermarket HU in for a while now, and the antenna connection to the stock antenna has been giving me a very weak signal, but since I rarely use the radio I haven't tried fixing it. I've been treading this section again and got me wanting to fix it since its getting warmer.
Anyways, I had originally pulled the antenna plug out of the rear of the stock radio, fit the aftermarket "adapter" antenna plug made for the R56 into the stock antenna plug, and attached that to the rear of my headunit.
There is indeed a blue wire hanging off the afftermarket antenna adapter, I forgot what it read on it, either + or -... but I didn't attach it to anything because when I plugged in the adapter with everything hanging out from the dash, it sounded perfect. Once stuffing it all back into the dash, I got iffy (static-y) signal.
If the mini has an amplified/powered antenna, then maybe attaching that blue wire to a power source may solve the issue..? Since there is no wiring harness for the R56 for aftermarket headunits, I spliced and wired up all the wires myself, so there are indeed a few that aren't connected, such as a dimmer (which isn't important to me anyways), so there might be some wire that should be attached to the antenna that I missed.
Thanks for the help!

The R56 (all) uses a diversity anntena system and the antenna amplifier determines which signal to send to the radio. The power for this AFAIK does not come from the radio.
If it sounded good when you first connected it and then when you pushed it all back in the dash it did not I would say that the connection came apart. That is the most likely cause of your problem, especially if you were using some sort of an adapter to change the size.
