2010 Convertible Bluetooth Issue

I am having an issue with the bluetooth in my 2010 Mini Cooper S Convertible (recently purchased in September 2010) and I was wondering if anyone else experienced this problem. After bringing my car to the dealership several times to try to fix the bluetooth problem (I could hear perfectly but no one could hear me at all on the other end), the dealership and a representative from corporate rendered the bluetooth system completely "unfixable." They offered me $500 and an external bluetooth as compensation but I found this completely unacceptable considering one of the main reasons that I traded in my perfectly fine '07 Cooper convertible for this new car was BECAUSE of extra features like the integrated iPod and built-in bluetooth. I did not accept this offer and called corporate several times asking for something more. After weeks of phone calls, I was told that this was their only and final offer.

I would like to continue fighting this and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced similar issues? Has MINI offered any compensation for issues like this? Am I wrong to expect more?

You're certainly not wrong to expect more. The tough part is this isn't prohibiting you from using the car so this isn't as big an issue to them as it is to you. I don't understand why they don't just replace the whole system for you. It's tough and labor intensive, but this is why you have a warranty.

What NJMini said...you should expect Full Replacement of the Bluetooth System. What exactly did they say the problem was (in English)?? Also, was this the Dealer you bought your MINI from, if so SHAME on them!!

The car was bought from Prestige Mini in Mahwah, NJ. To make matters worse, this was the FOURTH Mini my household bought from this dealership. I was absolutely shocked when they told me that the (brand new!) car was unfixable and basically expected me to walk away with such a small compensation. I am really just so disappointed.

I'm not sure from a technical standpoint exactly what the problem was with the bluetooth system. They kept my car for a week and had someone from corporate come to verify this. Both the dealership and corporate said that they could not fix the system.

Bluetooth problems? Me too!

Hi
Did you ever get the audio for the bluetooth resolved? I got my 2011 mini s convertible in 12/10. I have complained to the dealership and they "checked" it and reassured me that it works better than others. Well nobody can hear me(muffled and under water sounding). So it really doesn't matter if it is better than others, it still doesn't work. I just called customer relations as per the service dept. at my dealership. After finally getting to a manager there was no resolution. She said they will document my complaint so headquarters is aware. Well that is not getting my problem fixed. I am dissappointed that I was sold a product that was knowingly faulty.
I am curious to know if there are others out there with the same problem-----let me know, PLEASE!

No, the issue has not been resolved! My bluetooth is completely un-useable. During my most recent conversation with MINI Corporate, I insisted that they remove and replace the entire system which they refused to do. I then verified "I just want to make sure I have this right: You are REFUSING to attempt to replace the system which you have acknowledged is not working?" to which they replied "YES." Unlike you, MINI has admitted (although not at first! I had to have them "check" the system 3 times before they finally admitted it) that my bluetooth does not work, yet still refuses to fix it.

Here's a suggestion for you, this is how I "convinced" them that my bluetooth didn't work...As soon as I got out to my car from my service appointment (during which they told me my bluetooth was fine), I called the service manager FROM MY CAR in the parking lot, via the bluetooth. He couldn't hear a word I was saying. Then I marched right back into the dealership and said, "You know that phone call you just got?? That was ME! Now double check my bluetooth."

Anyway, I think there's a definite power in numbers. We REALLY need to know who else is having this problem! Anybody???

I actually had this problem with Honda Odyssey 2~3 years ago, it turned out that my phone (Motorola, I forgot the model #) would generate some sort of BT corruption. The fix I found was to clear the BT profile on my phone and car and re-pair them which was pain in the a$$, my carrier even replaced the phone but the problem would come back again and again. I am pretty sure you have spent a lot of time troubleshooting but have you tried another BT phone in your car?

While I think the people making such a fuss about the peeling trim, this is another matter all together . Since this may have been a decision to purchase a Mini based on this feature , the offer may not be fair . Regardless of the Lemon laws in your state, you may get some significant compensation.

This problem is fixable if Mini wanted to devote the resources needed. I really like using blue tooth. It's safer, more convenient and may be needed in many states to use a mobile phone in a car. So in effect it does affect the drivability of the car.

Good luck.

If there is a problem with your Bluetooth regarding sound (muffled or sounds like you are under water)and the person you called cannot understand or hear you, please let me know. There will be more power in numbers!
Thanks!

Wow, it's been quite some time since I first responded to this thread and I can't believe they still haven't resolved this problem.

At the very least, I'd completely stop going to this dealer for service. That way, at least they're not getting money for your routine service.

I know it's a lousy situation, but the squeeky wheel does get the oil. Honestly, you have more patience than I do. I would have dropped my car off for them to look at, asked for a loaner, and not accepted the car back until it was resolved. Keep asking MINI corporate what their action plan is and how they are going to fix this.

Hope things work out.

Actually - That is my next step! Drop it off and not take it back until it is fixed. Mini Corporate is a toatal waste of time. They have people answering the phones that will document your complaint and pass it along. I tried very hard to get through to a higher up. I called my salesperson and I am waiting for her to get back to me after she checks into the problem. I will give her a couple of days.

You can google BMW corporate office . It's in NJ . Ask for the executive office. Sounds like Mini is not standing behind it. They probably have no legal right to do that.

You may want to contact a law firm that specializes in lemon law.

If it were me, I'd (try to) get written documentation that they wouldn't fix it despite being under warranty and the $500 offer as well. Then I would get a lawyer involved. Frequently, that's all it will take. They have a legal obligation to fix things not working if it's under warranty and maybe they just need a legal "nudge" to point them in the right direction.

BlueTooth Use - Callers Cannot Hear or Understand Me - Mini Clubman S 2010

I purchased a Mini Cooper Clubman S in September 2010 and got the Premium Package. The car drives great but has two Huge Issues. One the Blue Tooth has not worked the way I anticipated..........I can hear the person I am talking to but the person I am talking to cannot either hear me or understand me. $$$$ wise investment in a product offered by MINI Cooper BMW and cannot be used. I have notified the dealership in Ft. Myers and when I had my car in for the first service, a motoring specialist did try once again. We took my car out for a test drive and called back to the Mini Cooper Main #. The girl that answered the phone for Mini Cooper said she could hear us and I thought the problem was solved. I made few phone calls on my way home....about 25 minute drive and neither party could hear my words and finally I gave up and chose to disable the Blue Tooth.

Second, the two panoramic moon roofs when open and you are on the open road is very noisy. You would not be able to talk on a phone or hear music as background music. I do not play the stereo loud, thus, I do not use the moon roofs.

Both the Blue Tooth and the Panaramic moon roofs were a huge part of why I bought the Mini Cooper.

On a positive side, the car drives and handles very well. The Harmon Stereo is excellent.

I will be calling the Mini Cooper Corporate Office to discuss the Blue Tooth Issue.
I am wondering if anyone else has had the same problem with the Blue Tooth.
I did read from amaroochi that he had the same problem and called the Corporate Office and was offered $500 and a Blue Tooth Device.

When I first bought my Mini Cooper in Sept 2010, I took the list of compatible cell phones to my cell phone carrier Verizon and a representative from Verizon said the list from Mini Cooper was so outdated and that the cell phones were very obsolete.

I disabled the Blue Tooth at that time because my cell phone was not on the "compatible" list. The Corporate Office did accept responsibility if anything were to go wrong using my LG Verizon cell phone. The motoring specialist again set up the Blue Tooth and my experience was from September 2010 until September 2011 was that the person on the other end of my phone call could not hear me or understand the words. It is strictly a one sided phone conversation with me being able to hear them. It does sound like they are in a tunnel. Very disappointing.....so I have again disabled the Blue Tooth use of my Mini Cooper that is one year old.

I will not be buying another Mini Cooper for the reasons I have given.

Disappointed in Florida

Have any of you tried "deleting" your Cell Phone from the MINI OBC, then deleting your MINI from your Bluetooth Phone?? Then once you've done that repair your MINI and Cell Phone. I had a problem where all of a sudden Molly would not communicate with my Cell Phone, but had for the duration of owning both Molly and my HTC EVO, I even talked to my SA about it who suggested I do this...it worked!!

Bluetooth revisited

Ok--- so i see there are a few more disgruntled mini owners! I heard from my salesperson at my local dealership and she left a message on my answering machine that said there is nothing they can do about this problem. She said she saw that I filed a complaint with corporate and let her know if there was anything I wanted to help the situation. What I want is a working bluetooth. I have disconnected the bluetooth and I am using a hands free. I am so disappointed! I am going to try R J Kimball's suggestion tomorrow and hopefully the problem will be resolved. If not, there are decisions to be made. We are presently owners of two other BMW's and have owned many in past years. I never thought I would have a problem like this. I will stay in touch!

TO ALL in this thread complaining about Bluetooth Issues. There is a seciton of this forum called Navigation and Audio https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...and-audio-201/

Where most if not all of your questions can be answered.

Also of note is in that section there is a forum user listing of what phones do and do not really work with the MINI system and in many cases why they do not work. it can be found here. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...kE&hl=en#gid=0

Also i have a great wealth of knowledge on the subject of bluetooth as well. If this thread had been in the Navigation and Audio section i might have gotten to help you all sooner rather than now after many of you may not have tried the really important things to get the bouetooth operational.

Any of you can PM me or put you information in this thread and I will respond to you..

the information that is needed by me to help you is as follows:

1. year and model of car?

2. options on you car? I.E. convenience package, sports package etc. Please list them all they DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

3. Make and model of phone?

4. Firmware version on the phone? This does make a very big difference especially if you have an LG phone.

Then once i have this info I can certainly help you better than the dealer can as to what may be your problem. Many times it is really just a setting that needs to be tweaked on the phone to make it work. And in some cases the phone itself is just not compatible with the MINI systems.

So if you really want help get back to me.

I got lucky

I too have a 2010 Mini convertible that had bluetooth mic issues. While I could hear people I was speaking with just fine, they could not understand a word that I was saying, even when at a dead stop with the top up.

This car was purchased in January 2011, and I didnt even notice the problem for a month or so until someone brought it to my attention.

Being a guy that hardly ever uses his phone in the car anyway, this issue was not a high priority with me to take in for warranty repair. My wife finally got tired of me lollygagging around on this issue and she found this thread on the internet.

So after reading this thread I thought, oh great, MINI is ducking this one and my dealer is probably also going to give a song and dance on it.

I took my MINI in for the microphone issue and, like many of you experienced, I got a phone call back from the service department saying the techs failed to find any fault--sounded just fine to them.

When I got back to the dealership, I got ahold of the service manager and asked him to wait while I went out to my car and called his personal cell phone. Sure enough, he could not understand a word I was saying and he took the car back.

Well, after a few more days of troubleshooting, including a microphone replacement that did not help, I am happy to report that I recieved my MINI back today with the bluetooth system working as adverstised. Made a call to my wife at both a stand still and 60 MPH with top down and she said she could now completely understand our conversation.

My dealer said what finally fixed it was replacing the Bluetooth control module and apparently it's replacement requires taking the dash apart. Anyway, I wanted to pass to all with this problem that there is hope if you get the right service department and stay firm.

Y'all take care and have a great holiday season!

bluetooth revisited

Hi All
Sorry I haven't been able to answer any posts lately. I have been very busy traveling. I want to recommend all of you to contact Schatzy 62 for audio help. He sent me an e mail on how to adjust the volume controls for my phone. Each phone will be different. I did the adjustments and I have made a few calls and the other end could hear me! As I said ,I have been away and have been in my car only once since I did the adjustment. I will try again today and then I am gone for another week. Good luck and I will talk to you in a week. Oh! I did bring Schatzy's e mail to my service manager and he thanked me profusely. We will see if anybody else has luck with this otherwise I like the idea of getting a new bluetooth module installed.
