Slow To Heat Up, is this the Norm?

After 2 months with the ALL4, we really have only one issue/complaint...it takes FOREVER to get warm air from the heater. Once it is up to temp, turn it down as the output is great. As I see some others have also noted this issue, I can not blame the cold Iowa winter. Thank goodness for the heated seats, but I still ask WHY so long?
Is this an issue with this family of engines? My 02 warms up rapidly, but the engine family is different.
Thoughts?

We traded a BMW 135 for the Mini. It was slow to heat as well. Im not sure if its a BMW trait or just these engines.

I'm finding it takes 12-15 minutes BEFORE THE heat starts pumping. Lars car that took that long to warm up for me was my 1968 Valiant! Of course, my check engine light is on too so I'm wondering if this is a recall issue?

I don't have a Countryman, but my Clubman takes several minutes to warm up (heater). It's cold in the morning, below freezing, but not THAT cold compared to other parts of the country. Heated seats warm QUICKLY, however .

I wonder if it's just something to do with this family of engines, as my '09 Clubman S seems to take a long time before I feel much heat too, especially on these single digit temp days.

I'm going to put my Garmin Eco module back in and see if I can see how long it takes to get up to temp - and try and learn whether it's an engine temp thing or maybe a heater thing going on...

You want the entire country to move to So. Florida, or only all the MINI owners north of you? Might get a bit crowdish if they did.....

This could be cause by the thermostat stuck in the open position. Normally, during initial cold start ups the thermostat is in the closed position bypassing the coolant flow to the radiator. This allows quick warm ups, when to coolant reaches the thermostat rated temperature it opens up the path to the radiator allowing normal cooling flow.

Conversely, some cars close the flow to the heater core during warmup to accelerate this process as well. As folks on this thread are commenting on a slow heater warm-up, it might be this system some folks are seeing. It was the same in most of the BMWs I've owned.

My 06 R53 takes at least 10-15 minutes to really warm up. Thank goodness my seats are warm in about half that time!!!

Interestingly, I am finding more reasonable warm up times now ~ 3-5 minutes. Of course, my check engine light is no longer on and the temperatures here in the northeast are not sitting close to zero any more.

My 08 clubman s heats up in 5 min or less.

My CM takes 10-15 min before heat blasts thru in auto mode. It is a bit weird. It has also been significantly colder this year!

It really does take the MINI engine a while for everything to get up to normal operating temperature. The engine coolant is only half the story - I have an oil temperature gauge on my '06 R52, and while the engine coolant is normally up to operating temperature in 10-15 minutes, it can easily take 25-30 minutes before the oil temperature stabilizes.
