Mysterious button under the bonnet (hood)

Hello everyone,

I did my homework but found nothing with the Search engine.

What's that mysterious button under the bonnet? (see pic)

Is that the fuel cut-off reset switch?

Just curious...

Thanks!

It's the engine eject button. I wouldn't touch it unless you are putting in a new engine.

Is it an actual button? I recall the level sensor for the alarm being installed in that spot at some point in time, but I'm not sure. Looks like an OEM connector.

Yes, it's a real button. I wasn't kidding when I said I pushed it several times lol... I can definitely feel the click on it. It has a soft cover btw.

Oh, and by the looks of it, seems OEM for sure.

Mine is an 02 MCS pretty much stock, but with sports package.

Cheers!

I dont have one of those, but I like it!!! No clue on what its for. Maby its like the pointless aluminum tab bolted to the left side of an SRT4 motor.

Did you buy this car new? I wonder if it could be a master kill switch for an aftermarket alarm. All my alarms that I had in the past had one but they were under the dash and you needed to turn the key backwards to use it. If you don't figure out what it is I would get a special made plastic sign that reads "mystery button" with an arrow pointing to it for future owners for be boggled also....

DING DING DING, TimL is the winner. It is the inertia switch for fuel pump cut off. I've only ever seen it on 02 MINI's, they made it part of the airbag module in 03. The button on the top is the reset if it goes off.

UPDATE:

That button turns out to be the Inertia Switch according to a MINI Manual I found.

I quote:

"In the event of the inertia switch being triggered in an accident, the doors will unlock, the windows will open, the interior lights will be illuminated and the hazard warning lights activated".

Also:

"Beginning with vehicles produced 09/02, the inertia switch has been eliminated. All functions previously performed by the inertia switch are now done by the MRS4 Control Module"

So, there you go my friends... I hope I never get to see it in action!!!

P.S.- The weird thing is that it does not mention a thing about cutting off the fuel supply to the engine!

Cheers!
