NEWBEE Q on upgrade...

Ok, so my 2009 JCW Vert arrived and ... well the radio sounds like poo...according to the "option" sheet from Manheim, there is really no mention of the unit in the car so I am assuming it is basic? Does anyone know if in the 2009 JCW, stock would have been HiFi or HK? I can't seem to find much info on the net about it.

Next question, is there a plug/play amp I can install, along with some Polk speakers at least, to ramp this thing up a bit? The freaking seat belt gong is louder than the stereo...

So I see Crutchfield says Polk DB6501's will fit the front, had them on my Z and sounded great...but they were pushed by an Alpine Amp (45/90). Would the stock unit have enough to push the speakers?

What about the rears? Anyone put Polks in the rear? Crutchfield doesn't seem to mention anything about the rears??

The easiest way to tell if you have the hifi system would be if you have tweeters mounted in your A-pillars. If you do, then you have the hifi system. Otherwise, it is the base radio.

TomFarin is working on a great thread on installing new front speakers, amp, and powered sub in a convertible in this thread, but he is not replacing his rear speakers: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...m-upgrade.html

Good luck!

My solution to my crappy HiFi was buying a MP3 Player. I purchased a Zune HD 32gb for a little over $200. The zune pass is $15 a month. I get unlimited music downloads. Which is Sick! I can download every album my favorite artist has ever recorded times a 100. The Sound Quality improvement was Huge! No more distortion!!!!! Most MP3 players have amplified signal. Plus it was way cheaper then a Stereo upgrade ($1,500 plus) including a couple of years of Zune Pass.

I also found that if you adjust your treble at 3, Bass at 2 and fader 3 clicks to the front it also helps.

P.S. You can adjust your seat belt gong down in your music settings menu.

Thanks for the replies. I tried using my iphone and changed setting, and is a "tad" improved. Already sold my DB6501's from my NISMO...hate that!

Seems like you should be able to fit 6.5" in the rear w/o any real issues? Do the grills simply snap off, to access mounting screws, hopefully?

I just bought a 2011 MCS with aux and USB port along with Bluetooth. How do you have your Zune plugged in? I have an 8GB Zune. Did you get a special plug from Zune because I tried plugging my USB connector and it didn't work.

Maybe a 3.5mm cable to go from the headphone jack to the aux-in?

Something like: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...EQRWCQ2T48K9F0
