Hi all,

I had my 48000 Km inspection done on my 2007 Cooper by the dealership a couple of weeks ago. Since then, a couple of... behavioural issues... have shown up.

The morning after the inspection I went to the garage to get in the car and go to work. Pressed the remote's Unlock button: I could hear the doors unlock, but the signal lights didn't blink. And none of the lights worked inside when I got in the car. Got out, locked and unlocked, and it was back to normal.

Then last night, while getting into the car after it sat for a half-hour in -8 C Montreal cold, I started up the car, buckled up.... and the seat-belt chime would not stop! It just kept yodelling, even after shutting off the car, getting out, locking/unlocking and getting back in! The chime finally stopped once I started the car for a second time.

I'll take my Cooper to the dealer and ask them to check it out, but I would like to know: is there a way to reset the car when something like this happens? I could have ended up driving all over town with the seatbelt chime still on, yodelling over-night and maybe draining the battery. So, how do we Ctrl-Alt-Delete a Cooper?

 

Regarding the seat belt yodeling ...

Did you have a package of some kind on the passenger seat? I went round and round on a long trip with a seat belt chime that wouldn't stop. turns out my computer bag sitting on the passenger seat was right on the border for the seat ovccupied sensor.

 

I would call and ask them if they updated the computer by chance. This seems to be a dealer thing, though you can certainly try disconnecting the battery if you want to. It may be all that needs for a reboot.

My dealer always resets/updates my car when I go there for some reason, and I always have to reset my key options on the screen in the car. It's a pain, but I'd be willing to bet they just reset stuff.

 

try disconnecting the battery its the easiest way to find out if its a bad electrical issue or just a fluke thing

 

I finally went to the dealership last week, and the service agent basically said "yes, we're getting a lot of calls about strange behaviour with the cold weather this past few weeks".

Not much help....

The dealer will do a reinitialization or reinstall of the ecm software. It’s scary to know that after all the years manufacturers have been building cars, “glitches” still just appear.

What’s even scarier, these are the same people/electronics that build our planes...


If you can’t take it to a dealer, disconnect your positive and negative cable and touch them together. Hold them together for about 15-20 seconds. Many times that will reset your ecm.

Understand I said disconnect the cables FROM the battery and then touch them together. We do this all the time in the bodyshop when certain codes show up...
