Interior/Exterior 2006 Cooper seats in my 2003 MCS
2006 Cooper seats in my 2003 MCS
Hi everyone,
I swapped out my cloth seats in my recently purchased 2003 MCS for leatherette front and rear seats out of what I believe was a 2006 Cooper.
When connecting the connectors under the seats, the yellow and blue plugs came together perfectly as expected. However, there is a single black plug in my 2003 harness that has 4 wires that doesn't connect to any of the left over plugs on the 2006 seats.
Here is a photo of the lone 2003 plug with the 4 wires:

Here is the harness that was cut from the 2006 Cooper when the seats were removed:

Notice that nothing really comes together. Has anyone ever installed facelift seats in the non-facelift 1st gen MINI? Is there some sort of wiring diagram out there?
Thanks!
Vlad

It looks like the seat belt connector, not sure but the connector looks like what I just checked in my ews cd ! I can't really tell the pin allignment from your pic, but if it looks like this, it's probably the seat belt connector! I'll try to find the wires color if they are the same as you!

X10425 Intermediate connector (4-pin, black), Hall-effect sensor, seat belt buckle
From what I just read the wires color would be those : GN/VI - BR/OR - WS/GN - BR! I guess that would be green/violet, brown/orange, uhwtf/green, brown! But don't take those for granted, I might just have read it all wrong! Maybe someone else will know!
*Edit : I work in a toyota dealer and god those Mini wiring diagrams are annoying :p

Hey Da_Ghost,
Thanks for your input! I'm just trying to figure out what I should do. When looking for information on the seat plugs from the 2006, I think I stumbled upon a post on MINI2 where somebody said the 3-wire plug was for the seat heater. That leaves me with one leftover plug from the 2006 that has two wires. Not sure how that will be compatible with the 4-wire plug from my car's seat harness.
Is it possible to maybe swap the seat belt buckle plugs between the seats? Any ideas?

Yikes.
Sorry for the thread resurrection, but I cannot find an answer anywhere. Did this work out for you? I'm about to get some 2005 seats for my 03 MCS and would really hate to be out of luck.
The seats can be switch from year to year.
The only issue is that the wiring changed several times.
There were more opitions on later seats.
Had to change seat belt harness because wiring was different.

Is it then possible to use the same seatbelt harness from the old seats with the new ones? Thanks for jumping in with some info, Vollgas.

One thing to ponder....

Vollgas, that's what I have been hoping to hear!
Zippy: From what I understand, letting the sensor sit without being plugged it lets it function just like it isnt there. Since my car was never offered with seats that use the sensor, it isnt looking for one.
As long as my airbags function as they are supposed to, I'll be one happy camper. And once that vinyl is gone, a less sweaty camper too.

I ended up swapping the seat belt buckle assembly between seats. Each buckle assembly had two plugs (a blue one and a black one) from what I recall. Although the blue plugs were the same between the facelift seats and the pre-facelift seats, the black plug was different.
Hey everyone, I simply swapped over my seat belt buckle assembly from my 2003 seats to my 2006 seats; it was very easy. The 2006 seats were a direct bolt-in. I don't have my old cloth seats anymore, as I gave them away already. And I'm not too sure how to get 2nd gen seats into the 1st gen; I would like to know if it's been done by anyone here on the forums!
